Yay! and Argh! at the same time :(

Well, I couldn't take the waiting for a price drop any longer, and ran out and bought my long awaited Nintendo DS. I bought the last one they had at one of the three local GameStops.

YAY!

So I take it over to a friend who also has DS. We play multiplayer Mario 64 (very colorful), it works great, I'm happy.

YAY!

I go home. I start up Metroid Prime (very dark, not colorful). And clearly visible, in the dark area, is a red colored...dead pixel.

ARGH!

It's just one red pixel, but I've seen laptops with dead pixels grow worse over time. I would really like to get the DS or at least the screen replaced. Does anyone know Nintendo's and GameStop's policy on this? Can I just take it where I bought it (with original box and reciepts), show the single dead pixel, and get a replacement? Or do they require multiple pixels? Or will they take my DS, sent it in for repairs, and give it back in a month? Or what?

Thanks for all replies.

Just take it back to the store you got it from and get it exchanged. Most of the time, the people behind the counter at customer service don't have a clue so they'll buy whatever explaination you give them because they want to just get it over with. Just tell them the screen is starting to flake out, and that you want it exchanged, and all should be well. Its not like it matters anyways since they're just going to toss the one you give them into the garbage and get credit for it from Nintendo.

Do they seriously trash that stuff?

(prepares for a trip to the mall's dumpster)

On thrashing depends...usually they just ship it back to the main warehouse and they deal with it.

But they'll just give me a replacement on the spot?

Great! :)

If you can show them the dead pixel, I don't see why not.

Okay, you're never gonna believe this :)

I bring my DS in to GameStop. The lady there is very helpful, and immediately replaces my DS once I show the red pixel (it's on the bottom screen, BTW).

Yay!

I go to the car, and instead of going home, open the package. Uh-oh! Stuck blue pixel on the top screen!

Argh!

So I go back in and show it. She gets me another replacement, and opens it and hands it to me.

Yay!

So I open it, start Metroid, and look at the top screen.
3 dead pixels, several different colors, this time.

ARGH!!!

Finally, on the FOURTH DS, it worked perfectly. Thank goodness.

Anyway, I went through four DS's in one day. How many of you can say that? :D

If they're serial numbers are close, Nintendo better catch it as 1/4 is pathetic.

Good on finally finding the one.

This DS is...awesome... :D Everyone should go buy one right now, and check to make sure there are no dead pixels first :P
