Winamp. I love the radio with so many different channels to choose and I love how it can open an entire folder containing subfolders if need be unlike WMP.

Depends on the purpose and the type of media. For MP3, OGG, AAC and other "traditional" music formats, I use Winamp 5 with the EMP2 theme (mostly as that combination manages to look okay with non-English character sets, has a workable interface, and will actually display those sets without choking, which is a combination that's pretty hard to find). For lossless codecs like APE and FLAC, I use Foobar2000 (as it actually renders metadata tags on those files correctly, unlike Winamp [which ignores the Artist field half the time]). For video, I use Zoom Player (loads quickly and has good access to codec controls). For short WAV clips where I'd like speed of loading to be negligible (for instance, reviewing SFX clips that I dumped from a Playstation game) plain old Sndrec32.exe works well enough. Voted Winamp, as the parent post seemed to be asking "preferred music player" rather than actually "preferred media player."

Windows media player classic for videos

Winamp 5 and Itunes for music

Whatever loads up when I click- usually Windows Media Player for videos, except for Quicktime as I haven't figured out how to play those in WMP. For music, whichever loads when I click, except if it's realplayer. I despise Realplayer's interface, so I download and play in another format.

Where is iTunes on the list?

For videos, QuickTime when I can, DivX when I can't, Windows Media when I must.

I use Winamp for mp3s, however when double clicking an icon, I have it set up so that old school Media Player takes it. I also use old school Media Player for for avi, mpg, and mpeg. For wmv and asf I use the current Media Player, and for mov it's Quicktime. I don't even bother playing ram and rm because RealPlayer is a goddamn virus.

Right now i'm using amaroK for music and trying to decide between Kaffeine and Xine for movies (i'm leaning towards Kaffeine). As for skins, i've got amaroK set to go along with whatever color scheme I have going at the minute and Kaffeine is using the default skin for right now (I don't even know if it's skinnable...) .

I prefer Winamp - Only because it connects to the Shoutcast servers for online stations.

Also the burning and plugins. 8)

I voted Winamp, as it is my preferred music player, but here's a rundown of what I use for different media formats:

Winamp 5 (Usually a Winamp 2 skin called DeLoreanAmp, but I use MMD3 if I'm feeling fancy): MP3, OGG, APE, RealMedia formats, Flash files using the Power Player plugin
Windows Media Player 10 (Default Skin, made a medium gray/blue to match my ChaNinja Subzero Windows theme): Windows Media formats, MPEG, AVI, WAV, MIDI, CD audio
Quicktime 6: All Quicktime formats
Core Media Player 4 RC5 (Default Skin, also color-matched to SubZero): OGM, MKV
NVDVD 2.55: DVD

Winamp for .ogg, .flac, etc, and WMP for everything else.

What can I say, I'm lazy. If I only need to press one button, I'll use that instead. :)

I stumbled across winamp years ago when i was trying to play some modded music. It never played, but i enjoyed winamp far better than microcrap media player. I try to use winamp for all my media except for quicktime and the occasional media file which refuses to play under anything but microcrap media player.

What I don't like about winamp and video files is that the video window behaves inconsistently, always resets size every time you change a video (say you have it at x2) and it's got a kinda clunky border. Media Player has a big border too but you usually have it maximized.

For watching videos i used Windows Media Player, mostkly because the videos i watch have been stitched togeather using Movie Maker and it used WMP as a default, for MP3's i use Win Amp 5.05 and DVDs i watch on PowerDVD.
