Audio Drivers: 1, Chris: 0 (Help!)

I am running Win2k Pro with an ASUS A7N8X 2.0 Deluxe motherboard, with an onboard NVidia Soundstorm APU. I'd been using the audio drivers that came on the CD included with the mobo (5.10.29something). These garble sound occasionally after extended periods of play (e.g, when listening to multiple songs in Winamp, or when playing a game for too long), though, so I figured I'd try and update. I did, and I now have version 6.14.457.0 (according to Device Manager, anyway-- the NVidia website* listed the drivers as version 4.57).

Since the update, my NForce Control Panel (sndstorm.exe) refuses to load. When I click it, I get this message, then the program closes:

Code: Select all

Incorrect size returned during FXMANAGER_ALLOCATE
As far as I can tell, sound still plays as it should, I just can't adjust any settings other than the most basic ones (read: what's provided in Windows Volume Control), and things just aren't working as they should, which bothers me.

Anyone know anything about this, or have any suggestions? Google only turned up a few links, and none of them were really helpful.

* If you're gonna check the site for yourself, the drivers are under Platform / NForce Drivers -> Audio Driver Package -> Win XP/2k

Clear out your system of nVidia drivers (or at least the SoundStorm ones) and then re-install them.

I already did that (clear of ALL NVidia drivers, actually-- the listings in add/remove programs were rather ambiguous, and I had to remove them all to be sure I got rid of the audio drivers to begin with). I suppose I should have mentioned that. :?
