Okay, over on my
new board I want to make the default theme something other than subSilver. I have subBlack, BlackSoul, Legend, and a couple others installed, but I can't find out how to change the default.
Also, how does one appoint supermods? I hit upon the method of just granting the moderator usergroup mod powers over all the forums, but there's got to be another way, as that method makes "Moderators" appear in the Moderated By: field, which I can't help but note isn't happening here or on other phpBB boards I go to with supermods.
Also, if any of you care to join up (hint hint), what are good themes to put on? I've got subBlack, subSilver, Black Soul, Legend, and Christmas Red. Any other recommendations are welcome.

General Configuration you doofus.

What do you mean by "supermod"? There are a variety of hacks that add a "supermod" user type that has partial admin powers.

I'm a big fan of Aeolus.

I see. I was looking in the styles manager.
I'll add Aeolus.

you might want to change your permissions in announcements and rules forums. you've got them set to where only moderators can read them.

Ged rid of the google ads. They don't fit the page.
It also seems to be an exact copy of SD.net

No, it isn't an exact copy, and I'm still adding to it and will probably take some down. I only just put this up a couple hours ago. I put in the sci fi forum because I know SD.netizens better than to think they won't want to talk sci-fi if they join up, but the main focus is going to be on politics and (especially) gaming. The Games and Gaming section is going to see a lot of expansion as I figure out where I want to run with it.

Fixed.
Added Aeolus and Chronicles to board styles, reset the default to Chronicles.

Make the Supermoderators group hidden.

Google ads may be a way for him to recoup the costs of the board, however, so even if they do look horribly out of places they probably should remain.

google ads are standard features on free phpbb boards. they go away if you're paying for it, though. much like standard free webhosts and such.

I realise that for some people they're an invaluable source of income - but can't you change the background to suit the board? They just look out of place on the default theme (or at least, what it was when I visited it to look)

I would suggest that you cut down on the number of forums, at the moment you have 15 forums and 12 registered users. So many forums with so little content makes the board just bothersome to use.

Make the Supermoderators group hidden.
I see. Right. Thanks.

YES. This is very important.
If you only have a handful of users, just have one forum for everything. You can add specialized forums later on as traffic increases.

Trimmed it down some. There are now 8 forums for general use (not including Rules and Announcements). I could trim it back some more, but I don't know how generalized I want things to get in here.

Personally, I would make Rules and Annoucements one board. If needed, make the Rules a sticky. Then combine the Cantina and the Tech Board, and the Science and Politics board. Possibly do something with the game forums as well.
Obviously, I'm also of the school of thought that less boards at the start is better. To me, having too many boards is more likely to break up the 'momentum'.
Other than that, to me the font seems a bit small, espically when combined with the slightly textured backgrounds.

So register and pick a different background. I have multiple themes installed.
I'll see what I can do about the font.

25 registered users, 129 articles and climbing fast in both categories. *Leans back in satisfaction.* Anyone else? Giving away free custom titles.

Sure. Make mine 'Black Knight of the Garter', and I'll... say nice things about you sometime. Promise.

Heh. After seeing your sig, I had put changing yours to "Black Knight" on my to-do list. Will do.
Edit: Done.

Okay, the smileys on my board have randomly changed for no apparent reason. The image files seem to have been replaced with MSN smileys and I'm not liking it one bit. I didn't do it. Furthermore, some of my users see the MSN smileys and some see the old default phpBB smileys. The problem was reported to me about a day before I noticed it, and some posters still aren't seeing the new set. What the hell gives?

some styles come with their own smilies, IIRC. Check it out.

Not Chronicles. Besides, they would have changed immediately. This took a couple days to manifest. I didn't change styles on my account, yet the smileys changed.
