Today I bought an european copy of World of Warcraft, but I can't get it to work on my computer.
The installation starts, then after a few minutes it hangs on the "terrain.MPQ" file, it doens't crash, but it does not progress anymore.
Can anybody help?

Already done.
Nothing they say has helped, I even copied all the CDs on the hd and tried to install from there, but with no results.

How long have you "waited' for terrain.mpq? I seem to recall the install taking a long time on my machine.

Two hours. And the file on the hd was still at 0kb.
On other machines, even worse than mine, it took far less, and the progress bar kept moving.

*shrug* maybe your optical drive is bad? Best bet would be to get blizzard tech support to assist, it's their product... That or look around for other WoW related forums.

I have two optical drives, and the problem persists even if I copy everything on the hd.
I already contacted Blizzard's tech support, but I am not able to post on the forum, even if I registered: it says "restricted forum" every time I try to post.

Do you have a firewall running while you update? When i got my WoW on friday my Norton kinda fucked about the patching untill i had to disable it. Also consider the possability that you bought a faulty CD.

I had massive problems trying to get WoW installed. Mine would never get past the first CD, crashing on that terrain.mpq file. I tried all the suggested solutions - turning off firewalls, installing from safe mode, copying the CDs to the hard drive, nothing worked.

What worked for me was installing it on a friends machine (where it went on no problems), networking the systems, then dumping the installed game onto my drive. Worked like a charm.

I had my friend send me terrain.mpq over AIM because mines was corrupted and the game wouldn't work.
