Hopefully this is the right forum if not please move it.

I personally use Trillian but am thinking of switching. Unhacked AIM is evil so which AIM client do you use, and why?

I've been using GAIM, although there are certain things about it that annoy the hell out of me. I actually really like the AIM interface, I just can't stand the thought of it infesting my system with garbage in the name of advertising.

I use GAIM but it can be somewhat flakey and a memory hog on Windows. My favorite IM client is Adium but that's MacOS X only :(

This should be in G&C.

My friend uses something called pork. . .I'm not sure if he wrote it or not. . . if you don't have time to waste on it I could ask about it. . . I don't do too well with text commands :( I'm a computer dunce. . .

as for GAIM I prefer the skins on Trillian  though I know that's not a reason to use a half decent program. . . I couldn't get a dictionary loaded into GAIM and from where I stand. . . both are the same at that point :(

I really like Trillian - the new 3.0 and 3.1 beta are very much an improvement over the old versions.

I use it because it supports all the IM clients (I use em all, except for Jabber), has meta-contacts, and a great plugin system that allows me to do many many things, like access my IM client over the web (IM Everywhere plugin) from any computer or WAP cellphone.

It's not a big memory hog, uses little processor, and has a great many skins.

I hated running 4-5 IM clients, including IRC. Now, it's just one. And it works well.

On the work computers, I am forced to use Trillian, for everything other than ICQ.

the newest version of Trillian is great on the interface, but still has nothing on the original AIM interface.

If your looking for a alt to AIM, short of using the hacked version, use Trillian.

Unless your use ICQ, then just use ICQ 2003b

definately, yes.
More functionality, better pref interface, more stable (tho stability was never a big problem for me on 2.0 pro)

Gaim is my favorite, which I use at home. I use Trillian on my work computer, but haven't played around with it enough to get used to it. Gaim seems to load up faster, though.
