Weird Freaking graphics driver problems

I run a geforce 4 ti4200 128 mb card. Directly after getting Half-Life 2 for Christmas I made sure I upgraded to nvidia's newest graphics drivers, ones that they upgraded november 9. Things go well for quite a while and then one day my graphics drivers don't seem to work anymore.
My screen's resolution was out of whack, I couldn't run any games. So I decide to downgrade to the driver released before the november 9th one. Then I can actually run all of my games except for Half-Life 2.
Does anybody know what the hell is going on here?
