DirectX itself cant. Its like asking to uninstall a large chuck of the GUI framework.

Apps using DirectX can.

The question is: why do you want to do that?

Yeah, DirectX is the base standard for such media application protocols. If you're having problems with it, you can always install the latest version over your current one again.

Dude, get XP. Welcome to the 21st century.

I have to second that. Get XP. A lot of problems will disappear once you get an OS that isn't 7 years out of date.

If it works don't mess with it.

I think that the rig matches the OS and a 7y old rig will struggle with XP

Try a google search for DirectX uninstallers. However, it probably won't work, and if it does, you need to have copy of version 7 to reinstall. Otherwise, you'll have reformat and start over with a fresh Win98 install. And the though of doing that pains me.

If getting XP is an option, I'd suggest you do it.

alternatively get Win2k if your machine can't handle XP. it might not have as many features, but it's far more stable and reliable than ME or 98.

Do MS even support 98 anymore?

If not then thats a very good reason to upgrade.

DX9 will still install on 98.

Having to upgrade to DX9 on every comp I use at work when I first get on a jobsite, proves it enough to me.

if your having problems with DX8, just grab the DX9 upgrade Crazed, it should work fine for you after,

I recommend that. There is a 233 MHZ 64 MB RAM Pentiun 1 machine in my home and it runs both Win2K Professional and Advanced server with decent speed and rock solid stability.
