Should I reinstall DirectX or just download just this one component?
I have no zero idea how this happened, except that I had to boot my comp in safe mode about an hour ago, and then found ddraw missing.

I'd say reinstall DirectX

that way your sure to catch any other missing DX files you may have

Ok, I ran dxdiag, only ddraw.dll is missing, thankfully.
But, when I dled and reinstalled DirectX, nothing happened. The little install screen came up, ran through, completed sucessfully, but ddraw.dll is still missing.

Well, I've tried reinstalling, rebooting, etc etc, and nothing works.
What the hell is going on? After each reinstall, it says the file is still missing.

Here you go, make sure you have 9.0c first.

Also, whenever I run dxdiag, I get the following error:
'Problem getting extra display info, result code 0x8000x4005 (generic failure)'

Could this have something to do with it?

Assuming you have XP, in windows/system32.

Well, it's a rather moot point now, so I just decided to reinstall Windows.
Everything went perfectly smoothly, except the sound doesn't work.
