Retrogame blues....
today I crashed my computer after re-installing System shock 2
It appears some of my newer bells and wistles don't like shodan.
I also installed and tried patching:
Heroes of Might and Magic * (can't remember which number)
Terror from the Deep
both fallout games
starfleet command
daggerfalls
panzer general
krush kill and destroy
and several others
the computer is being a pain, and not playing nicely with me.
any suggestions?

SS2 works for me with xpsp2 with the multiplayer patch. It won't work otherwise.

hmm
I'll have to tinker with settings, considering I have an ungodly amout of disk space still left in my computer (System Shock telling me I have no free disk space and then eating Rome Total War) with the patch in place kinda freaks me.
something wierd I just wanted to beat the bitch again....

Your PC fears SHODAN.
Take this as a warning.
I think Through the Looking Glass has a guide on getting SS2 to work on 2k/XP though.

This is of course anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt but here we go...
Okay. SS2 does work with XP, but needs the latest patch. Starting pre-patch SS2 crashed my machine, too.
TFTD is available in an XP-compatible legal (as far as I know) free/abandonware version. Give me some time to find it. IIRC, there was a thread about that sometime last year.
FO2 worked for me without any problems using the latest patch. FO1 didn't. Sorry
No clue about the others.

SS2 with patch doesn't have a problem with my 100+Gb free space. Are you sure the patch applied properly?

Wait, this is pretty strange. HOMM (all version) and both Fallout run flawlessly on my Winblows XP (IBM R42 notebook; Pentium IV 1.7 Ghz). Probably there's something wrong with your system?

While we're on the subject, my xp machine keeps freezing just a few minutes into the original Thief: The Dark Project. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I had a retarded 'skipping' problem with T:DS for years: the game would run smooth, but every five seconds it would pause, as if for loading. I never fixed it, and it doesn't happen on my new hardware. I can't handle the textures these days, though
