Foreign languages with Microsoft Word
I'm taking Russian at the local university here, and I was wondering if you guys knew of a decent spell checker and grammer checker for Microsoft Word. I've heard that a lot of them are not to be trusted, and the few that I have seen have either been crap or prohibitively expensive. Do you guys have any insights to this dilemma? I have a bunch of compositions to write this semester, and being able to avoid basic spelling mistakes in Russian will make my life a lot easier.

the vast majority of spell checkers and grammar checkers are largely worthless. they can't account for things like content of the article and what the writer's trying to get across. as such i tend not to use them at all. only real advice is to bone up on grammar and get a decent dictionary. barring that, use merriam-webster's online dictionary.

I wanted to, but since I have an American verison of Word already, it seemed a little silly to be dropping the money for a completely one-dimentional version of Word, especially if I could just find a file to download somewhere.fgalkin wrote:Well, you can try ordering a Russian version of Word, which automatically goes with a spell-checker and a grammar-checker for Russian.
Have a very nice day.
