Chessmaster 10th Edition Direct3D Troubles

I'm having very strange texture problems with this game, specifically in D3D mode. Certain textures are rendered as white, specifically the piece textures for all non-glass Classic 3D boards, and the board texture for all boards except Clash. I'm also disallowed from enabling reflections and bumpmapping, even though my card is more than capable. Shadows (except realistic, that's grayed out), glare, and AA work fine, though.

I'd use OpenGL, but Ubisoft didn't put much effort into the OpenGL mode. All eye candy is disabled, and animated chess sets don't, well, animate. I'd also install the 1.02 patch to see if it fixes any of this, but the patch installer claims that anim8.dll is of an unknown version, even though it's the one installed by the game.

Anyone know how to fix this, and if not, can someone who has the game and has it patched upload the files modified by the patch so I can apply it manually?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, D3D mode worked fine on both my old GeForce 4 Ti4200, and the GeForce3 Ti500 I was using after the 4200 died and before I got my 6800GT. Most of the eye candy was disabled, but at least the textures weren't rendered as white.

Nevermind, it turned out to be a driver issue. Installing the new 71.84 drivers fixed this, as well as the problems I was having with Rise of Nations, X-Wing Alliance, and Joint Operations.

Also, I figured out that it wasn't actually rendering the polys untextured, as I previously thought. On all 3D boards except Clash and Cartoon (which used a cel-shading shader), the lighting on pieces and the board itself was way brighter than it should've been. This was also the case with Joint Operations, in which all objects were rendered fully and brightly lit, no matter the actual lighting conditions.
