Is there a way to get Internet Explorer off of the internet? My IE is jacked and I want to reinstall it. If you say the original Microsoft CD, it's on the other side of the continent.

Tell your firewall to block IE.

Search for 'IERadicator' and run it. That'll nuke IE from high orbit, then you just need to reinstall IE6 from scratch (Download that from the MS site). Or not, at your discretion.

You don't want to reinstall IE. You want to install Firefox.


If, however, you simply must reinstall IE, you can download an installer from The Beast Itself.

You might have to make a pretty thorough job of removing all previously installed components as well, as it will generally refuse point blank to install over the top of a newer version (I'm not even sure you can remove enough to make it reinstall without severely disembowelling Windows, as one of the core files is mshtml.dll, which Explorer also uses, and removing it will generally make your computer sit in a corner and cry.)

IEradicator has saved my ass here at work more than once. It's not perfect, but it's damn effective. And yeah, shoot for Firefox if you can.

You could also repair IE if you need to.
