why can I not set my internet home page

Clicking on the tools bar in internet explorer, and then going onto internet options. From there I tried to set my home page to google. However no matter how many times I try it, it always opens microsofts home search engine and then bombards me with ads.

This is becoming problematic since I find that trying to open certain sites eg my e-mail, amazon.com, instead of opening the proper window, it just opens a window into the microsoft page. UGGH.

At least I can still do internet banking.

try running the various anti spyware programs. sounds like your machine might be infected. also strongly recommend not using internet explorer if at all possible.

Seconded. Your consistent failure to set a default homepage is a sure sign of spyware. However, I just heard about this one spyware pointing at Micro$$oft search page.

Probably Micro$oft is actually making their own spyware as one of their new imposed "feature"??

At Internet Options under Adress Bar you type in the adress then click Apply! Dont hit any of the USE buttons.

I set my page to Yahoo years ago and it has never changed. But if your doing i what i mentioned then yeah sounds like spyware.

I have run Spybot search and destroy + adware programs several times. If it is spyware, its one they don't recognise.

I am very suspicious that it keeps on loading to microsoft, + keeps on advertising anti spyware programs the moment it loads up.

Because God hates you.

And get FireFox. You'll never look back.

Even when used together, automated tools (like Adaware and Spybot S&D) miss a large number of spyware components. From your description, you're definitely still infested by a browser BHO and possibly other components as well. Submit a Hijack This! log to the appropriate thread and one of us will tell you what else needs to be killed. In the meantime, I'd advise moving away from IE for browsing and using something else in the interim.

EDIT: Added link to the HJT! log thread.
