Arrogant online gamers

Have you ever played an online game and run into one of these guys? They usually want to tell you how to make your character, and then insult you if you don't.

Last night, I put City of Heroes back in because I hadn't played it in a while. I met one guy who wanted to form a team, and I agreed. The coversation went like this.

Him: "Why don't you have such and such power?"

Me: "I dunno, I like my guy this way."

Him: "you should have that power and aslo such and such"

Me: "Ok, do you want to hunt now?"

Him: "since you're a tanker, you should have gotten it a long time ago."

Me: "yeah yeah, a long time ago... Lets play now?"

So he agrees and we get in a fight, in the middle of the the battle, he says I'm too much of a noob and takes off. I barely escape, and then start broadcasting insults directed at him.

Anyway, have you ever encountered anyone like that?

Not really. The worst I've had to deal with was two occasions of PKers in D2 jumping into my solo game and declaring hostility toward me without even having the courtesy of asking first. I said on both occasions "Buzz off" and they did. So I can't really fault them for that. The last guy actually apologised.

Some of the stories I hear are arseholes who are level 80+ kill a level 9 n00b because they have small dicks or whatever. Seriously, what kind of shithead do you have to be in order to go whack some guy who's got absolutely no chance at all of stopping you in a fight? Fuckwits.

You want a solo game, set the max players to one, or set a password. Dodge all that crap. :)

Hmm... A power that some people think of as a must have for a Tanker? I'm guessing... Taunt? If not Taunt, then Hasten and/or Stamina.

Still. Whining over someone's power choice is just low. I mean if the player can play the character and do his part, then whether the character has X power or not doesn't really matter to me.

That's the worst thing about online games! You have to play them with online gamers.

How about team killers? I love playing CoD:UO online, and TKers are almost always a problem (and I'm not talking about the accidental friendly fire). My favorite servers are good at kicking or banning the bastards, but just one of the fuckers running around for a few minutes can ruin a game.

What the hell possess these "people" to make them be such assholes and ruin it for everyone else???

back when I did diablo online, I had a cheating patch ready to roll. so when they killed me with their patched uber beam of death, I patched invincible, and kicked his ass. :D :P

The fact that their girlfriends look suspiciously similar to their right hands?

Worst one used to be Lineage 2. From day one it was non-consentual PVP and assholes just used to hang arround the n00b towns to gank new players and there was little or nothing you can do against a Dark Elf de-leveld down to lvl 4 from lvl 20. Their Backstad ability was an instant 1 hit kill.

Depending on the game, some would argue that they are role playing the bad guys. If its an MMORPG and you're a highwayman, the "in character" thing to do is to be an arse and rob the weak travelers who dare venture into the unsafe areas. ;)

Not from a MMORPG, but from Halo 2.

4 teams of 4 slayer match, and my team is only a few kills from 1st place, when 2 jackasses from the last place team switch to mine and start killing themselves. After knocking our score down more than 40(!) points, they went over to the winning team (the one with the host in it) and started doing it to them. Took the host 10 seconds to boot them when I'd been asking him to do that for as many minutes. Prick.

FPS's have their fair share and i've seen a lot more on Counter Strike then anywhere else. On a server i visit regularly there's 2 idiots who always accuse the person who killed them of cheating. The funniest time was when they both killed each other at the same time (Grenade) and simultaneuosly accused each other of cheating. by that point every was saying "STFU" but tooktime out to laugh.

One person called my brother a cheater when he used the Booster adreniline move in UT2004. That was funny. (For those who don't know, adreniline moves are incorperated into the game and are not implimented by cheats. a.k.a. IT SAYS HOW TO DO THEM IN THE FREAKIN TUTORIAL)

More stories later.

In MMORPGs, the 'roleplaying' exuse for being a faggot doesn't wash - in real life, the highwayman doesn't have eight times my hp, feats that stun me, curse me, and drain me. Nor do they often have armour making them invincible, while their weapons kill in one hit.

You can't use real life to rationalise horribly broken level-based RPGs, because they AREN'T fair. The whole point of those games is to 'level-up'!

Having just bought WoW and started playing, I think Blizzard pretty much eliminated these problems from the get-go.

1. Low level? You won't be attacked.

2. Wanna fight someone? Challenge em to a duel. No one dies, you find out who's better.

3. Got killed? You've lost nothing- just go get your body as a ghost.

And so on and so forth. What's yours is yours and no one can take it away from you. The sense of community is better than most, I hear. The amount of times I'm sitting there about to get killed by some bloody monster and inconvenience me by making me run from the cemetry to my body, and someone else comes along, sees what's happening, and simply KOs the baddie, it's fun. I do it as well. Who wants to die? No one.

Too bad it's impossible to log on because the servers are always having some problem. :P

Anyways, these gamers tend to be in MMOs and multiplayer RPGs, with some in FPSs. I can recall all sorts of incidents from Dark Age of Camelot, Earth & Beyond, Galaxies, and even WoW where I get crap from some moron because I don't feel like using or training in x power/spell or y character build/spec, particularly the latter. So the fuck what if I don't want to use a two-handed sword, or wear a helmet? I remember the helmet issue very clearly in DAoC; I didn't like the look of them on my paladin. I took a ridiculous amount of flak for it, even among guildmates (not to mention my fashion sense, which is sorely lacking amongst MMO gamers). Bear in mind that this was all on a roleplay server.

In the FPS arena Battlefield: Vietnam comes to mind, in which I get called all variations of "n00b fagat" because I prefer not to pilot Hueys, Cobras, and Hips like a complete fuckwad.

I was just there havin fun and then this guy started bitching about how his team was noobish and how everyone that killed him was noobish and blah blah blah....You guys know the type....So I naturally told him to stop whining like a little girl and then he sent me a message like "stop calling me names bitch--I can easily bitchslap your damn ass" or something like that...I told him he was whining again and then guess what???? This whining asshole was a mod for that server.....So he kicked me....His kick message had this long message about how he didnt like me and blah blah blah....Had to be a 12 year old or something....

And thus ends my rant......

What's cool about WoW is that you can hide your helmet and even your cape if you don't want to see it. You'll still have the stats from it so that people don't bitch at you, but you don't have to look at it. I myself love the look of helmets and capes so no use for me.

D1/D2 I am resticted to smart gear, namely necromancers and amazons, as me+spells+lag are a nasty combo...

There's always that one dude in a server who thinks he's the hottest thing this side of the planet, who calls everyone else "nubcaeks."

If I weren't playing so badly then, I coulda flattened him.

What i find really funny is the guy calling me a "n00b" after i just "pwned" his ass for the past 5 rounds 'cos he's so stupid he tries to rush the wide open space, where he knows there's sniper WITHOUT smoke or flashbangs!

Thankfully my server always seems to be up although my internet sometimes goes down.

Ugh! Someone had to mention Battlefield Vietnam. That game is infested with bad players. Its no longer fun to play it.
