Firefox rot/How many tabs do you open?

Anyone notice Firefox slowing down over time? I occasionally have to nuke my profile directory- rather annoying.

As an aside, how many simultaneous tabs do you usually have open? Currently I have 17...

Also, anyone notice how FF/Linux is vastly slower on Linux? Every time I view a web page that has fixed backgrounds, scrolling gets jerky. Opera does better, but is still laggy, although it's other performance is still decent.

Not really. My main problem with Firefox comes when it freezes and I have to kill it. Loading the first webpage after restarting it takes an age.

Usually about 6 tabs.

Before getting a tab extention: About seven.

After: Uh, let me count...about 14. The tab extention I'm using now lets me move them around and has Firefox automatically save them as they are whenever I close the browser. :D

I usually have about six to eight tabs open but I've had a dozen or more at once for several hours without problems. I've never had it slow down over time, and I usually keep Firefox running for days at a time.

I do have that problem with Konquerer, which is one of the reasons I switched to Firefox (AdBlocker was also a factor in that decision, as well as the fact that there are some sites that don't work very well in Konquerer). When I regularly surfed with Konquerer I would find that the browser would become less responsive the longer I ran it without closing it and re-opening it.

I also don't find that it is slower or less stable on Linux compared to the Windblows version, as I have a Windblows 2000 installation and it runs about the same on that. Although I rarely boot into Winblows anymore and when I do it is usually to play a game and I almost never acccess the web from that OS, so I could be wrong.

Haven't noticed any slowdowns. Then again I rarely have more than 5-6 tabs open unless I'm searching for porn.

You people make me feel un-nerdy. I usually just keep 1 or 2 tabs open at the same time. I've gone up to about thirty or so, but I don't do that often.

I always having my FF crashed when opening too much tabs. It happens fewer when starting FF in 'safe mode', though.

Never suffered such crash when using Opera, but other browser is getting slower when I open to many tabs in OP. :P

Eh, I've had memory-leak problems with Firefox in the past. Next time you get slowdown, open up the task manager and see how much memory the firefox.exe process is taking up?

Firefox has never developed a rot, in my case at least.

My problems with it are the memory and processor usage. Right now it's at 59.4 megs taken with two tabs open.

I used to regularly have dozens open at a time. However, I don't do that much anymore.

While I generally like Firefox, I do have three problems.
1) Sometimes, after starting the program, after I type in the first URL, it stops responding for a minute or two.
2) It can run really slow at times. (Particularly when using a single very large page).
3) The download manager doesn't seem to work for me. I've used multiple different version of Mozilla/Firefox on multiple computers, on multiple different networks. And on each of then, when I try to download a file, it's corrupt about 50% of the time. Therefore, I typically use IE or GetRight to download files.

Erm... running Linux- and I have plenty of RAM (not even full)- problem appears CPU bound. Almost every GUI app on Linux seems to suck down CPU like no tomorrow,.

I do not like browser tabs, and greatly prefer to have separate windows for each webpage, as it makes navigation between them much quicker.

I use seperate windows. 1 or 2 for yahoo launch music, 0-6 for messengers, and 1-2 for browsing.

I usually have two. I have more open when on some message boards, or checking multiple webcomics.

I only have a ton of tabs open if i'm looking at a large series of pictures (read: porn).
