I don`t know if this should be here or in the Heavy Armor Brigade but I have been playing 40k off and on for a while and was wondering if you good people had any recomendations for a modern or ww2 Miniature game.

That would depend. I've been playing a game called "Charlie Company". It's platoon sized skirmishes in Vietnam. Main focus is on infantry, and it requires a "GM" for max gaming enjoyment.

Flames of War looks pretty nice. Cheaper than WH40K, too, and easy to learn from what I've seen.

Local hobby shop has their own way of doing things, buy a shitload of 1/72 scale tanks and infantry and duke it out. its fun as hell, especially if youre like me and use a massive group of Tigers, Koenigstigers, Jagdtigers, and Sturmtigers. I am currently undefeated, except for that one time that guy spent 700 dollars equipping his army with IS-2s and T-34/85s, that stung.

I'm about to start that game myself (Soviet tank commander).
Looks to be splendid fun.

Yeah, it really does, and I found a shop in the area that sells FoW stuff. Now just to save up and choose an army.

I should warn you, allegedly the models are apparently very fragile and have some lead in them.
Might I ask which army you're looking at?

Flames of War is fucking good.
The models aren't that fragile (no more so than any other lead/resin kit), but the flashing and other miscasts can be a bit of a problem, but if its too bad they'll replace the mini's for you.
I have more than 1500pts of Fallschirmjager and am still building that army.
Probably going to get an Aussie rifle company or a Free french army as my second one.
Flames of War has very nice rules, BEAUTIFUL community - I mean the forums are ALIVE and without a doubt the most helpful games related ones (official or otherwise) I've ever encountered and if you have even the most miniscule of problems the BattleFront staff are more than willing to help. Nearly everything is available FREE online except for the main rules (Intel briefings give you all you need to make an army, but the books have a lot more detail).
Its just brilliant. And cheaper than GW when it comes down to it, not by much, but I feel better with FoW as at least I can see where my money is going.

15mm
Not really any scale. Smaller than 1/72 and bigger than 1/120.

Most likely a soviet tank army. Gotta love T-34s.

Most likely a soviet tank army. Gotta love T-34s.
And as a German infantry army, I gotta love the Mother hen rule.

You can have your 10 T-34s but if they move, because the crews are shite, only the command tank/lead tank may fire.
Makes life easier when you have NO armour at all in your force.

Oh and my MG-34s and mortars should be making short work of any Strelakovy companies you have out there!
Bwahahah! Bwahahahahah!

Apparently you haven't heard of the Artilleriy (spelling?) division, foolish franz. 1,500 guns per square kilometer will make short work of your silly toys.

Yes, you can have all the fucking guns you want (and you can afford them too) but try and range in silly Commie!!! You cannot for Fearless Conscript troops blow at anything other than steamroller attacks! And Fearless Veterans (ahh, Fallschirmjager) shall destroy you easily! But will we have enough ammo?

Not quite modern, but Star Wars miniatures battles by WEG is fairly easy and fun, and with the new WOTC minis, it is easy to get minis.

On the FoW forums I was putting together some trial rules for a KV-VI... Should see if I can find them.

The Red Army always has more soldiers than you have bullets.
Plus, how are your tanks and men going to hold up in the brutal russian winter without any heavy clothing? Speaking of which, does FoW take into account such factors?

Shit, is that only for T-34s? Because my force would be half Lend Leased Lees.

Could be worse.....Imagine being a Jappanese player in Manchuria in 1945.......and facing a Soviet heavy armor company. Do they have the OOB for Japanese troops? I know of a supplier that sells 15mm troops for them.
