False Windowsupdate site

Apperently there is a mail going around that links to a phony windowsupdate site.
This is the only image I have found so far.
To be safe don't click links from all sort of crap mail.
Type
www.windowsupdate.com in your browser yourself.

A reminder:
www.windowsupdate.com has been depreciated in the aftermath of several zombie/worm attacks. windowsupdate.microsoft.com is the address that's recommended now.

Would clicking on the Windows update shortcut in the start menu work or can it also be ruined?

If your computer is rooted then it is quite possible to highjack the star menu.
Bet then again the hosts file might also be compromised.
Do as Datana sugested and type
windowsupdate.microsoft.com in the browser
