Stabilizing a dial-up connection

Over the last month, my system has developed some kind of glitch, so that whenever someone tries to dial the phone, I lose my connection to the net. This didn't happen before, and it's pissing me off, because my dumbfuck roommates keep turning on and hanging up the phone every time I try to go online. Is there any way to change my system settings to fix this?

I'd remove and re-install your modem.

If that doesn't fix it, then chances are the change is to do with the phone line and not your PC.
