Opera 8 released

For those of us who realise that Mozilla isn't the only other browser in the world, Opera recently released version 8 of their offering for Windows and Linux (Mac version to follw, but there's a beta release available).

It adds a new bunch of really clever and useful features, like the control to close a browser tab being in the actual tab itself, so you don't have to switch to it to close it, seems as fast as ever, if not faster, makes the mail client invisible until you actually sign up an account in it, seems to have improved compatibility with a bunch of websites, and still handles pop up blocking better than Firefox (As Firefox will let pop-unders through unless you tell it to stomp everything, which is annoying)

Huh?
I don't see your problem... I can minimise windows, if I so want.

Mouse gesture works perfectly :)
hold right button, move mouse down, then left.

Using tabbed browsing?
If so, does each tab hold a little "x" for closing?
When you deactivate it in the preferences, it should show the "normal" buttons in the upper right corner of each page again...

Ah, Thanks, but what I meant is that in Opera 7, clicking on the tab caused it to minimize... now it dons't work, and it was probebly the best thing about the UI in Opera 7.

If you turn off the close button on the tabs then clicking the tabs will once again minimise.

$39 is pretty pricey for a browser.

think i'll still stick with firefox. i prefer not having ads in my browser. and that taskbar/toolbar/whatever on the lefthand side is plain annoying.

Which is why you simply can deactivate it with the click of the mouse :)

i know i can 'hide' it, but it's still possible to accidentally click it and have it show up again. course that's only one of the features i don't care for about opera. i also find its download manager annoying.

Okey, how do I turn off the close button and go back to reguler UI?

"Tools" -> "Preferences" -> "General" -> "Show close button on each tab"

Thanks, works well now.

Another question, when I open links from one page, it goes
Main Page- newest links-oldest links. How can I reverse the order of newest and oldest.

Thats for NSFW stuff :P

Heh, whats wrong with the dlm?

The new 'force you to use gestures to minimise' idea is pretty lame, however.

What controls how browsers render pages? When I view the same page in ie, Opera and Firefox it looks sorta different.

The rendering engine? :)
Each browser has its own, so some show a tag differently than the other.
