Well, for a *great* gpu, get a 6600GT, around 200 bucks. PCI Express version is 20 bucks cheaper.

Be patient, young padawan. Don't bump your threads after only a few hours.
I would help you out but I'm too slammed with schoolwork to put in the effort needed. However, you might want to browse around
ArsTechnica, they have fairly well-made system guides--including a Budget Box.

Also, I could send you my old FX5200 and a 250watt power supply for free, since I'm not going to be using them (and when I get my new ram, a gig of PC2700.) You would just have to pay S&H.

i was looking to buy new from somewhere, i figure that the newer it is, the longer it will last before you have to get a better piece of hardware just to play and do stuff.

Well, my stuff has hardly been used much, probably for half a year, and have been subjected to zero overclocking, so I imagine they would last quite a while. The FX5200 isn't a very good card, but you could use it as a stopgap until you get something better. But hey, if you change your mind, I'm always willing to send you it.
