I'm looking forward to seeing the performance of these new GPU's. If they work as advertised, then I need to get one.

The RSX (NV GPU) is over 2x the power of a 6800Ultra, so they say. No embedded DRAM for "free" anti-aliasing. I wonder if r520 is faster.

I'm sure (and it has been said) devs flocked to the PS3 after hearing how powerful it was. After all, difficulty in programming and all that didn't prevent PS2 from being #1 in terms of sales and 3rd party support. Sony probably has something that will ease the pain of programming for Cell.
Are these real pics of PS3?

If it's not worth doing decent programming for, it's not worth me buying. There are far too many cheap and nasty games out there and it's about time they started getting weeded out, so the PS3 hopefully will carry on what the PS2 started and give additional power to developers that know how to make games.

I'm reading this in real time. Let me quote the transcripts and here are some pics:
Square Enix has just shown off a Final Fantasy VII tech demo for the PlayStation 3, but they did not announce a specific game for it. Yet.
--------------------------------------------------
A representative from Square Enix has taken the stage.
--------------------------------------------------
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you PlayStation 3:

---------------------------------------------------
A Getaway sequel has just been announced for PS3.
--------------------------------------------------
PlayStation 3's Blu-Ray Disk medium at 6x will feature 324Mb/sec data transfer rate. This will enable extremely fast load times.
--------------------------------------------------
Apparently, there will be a "PlayStation P2P Online Service", although just how this works is unclear as of right now.
--------------------------------------------------
Phil Harrison has just stated that there will be "an amazing surprise at the end of the show".
--------------------------------------------------
According to Hirai, PlayStation 3 (now confirmed as the official title, apparently) will feature dual HD outputs. The supplied controllers are wireless, as stated earlier and use Bluetooth as a connection. These last 24 hours on batteries. The PSP will be a major bonus for PS3 owners. You can have remote access to your PS3 from your PSP, and you can even use a Wi-Fi connection within PS3 to use your PSP as a controller for a PS3 game. PlayStation 3 also features a "built-in network cap".
--------------------------------------------------
Currently, a realtime demo of the Unreal 3 engine is being shown, running from a PS3.
--------------------------------------------------
The nVidia-powered graphics are twice as powerful as a GeForce 6800 Ultra.
--------------------------------------------------
PlayStation 3's hardware has gotten a little more detailed. The main CELL processor included will run at 3.2GHz, and feature 7 SPEs. The nVidia GPU will run at 700MHz, and there will be a 256MB XDR RAM stick included with the PS3, running at 3.2GHz. PS3 will have robust multimedia support, including: video chat, internet access, digital photo viewing, digital audio and video playback. There are quite a few slots on the PS3, including: Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, Compact Flash slot, 2 HDMI outputs, 1 A/V multi out, 1 SPDIF optical output, and 1-gigabit Ethernet built in port. This is all in addition to what was previously announced.
--------------------------------------------------
It's just been confirmed that the PS3 will have a detachable 2.5" hard drive, six USB ports, a memory stick slot, and seven bluetooth wireless controllers.
--------------------------------------------------
Kaz Hirai has taken the stage, beginning his speech with "190 million PS2s sold. 2 billion software sales" Hirai then began speaking about PlayStation 3... It features the CELL processor as previously reported, and also features a Blu-Ray Disk drive, running at 6x. Backwards compatibility with both PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games has also just been confirmed. Hirai also stated that PlayStation 3 runs at twice the speed of Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 console is capable of reaching 10 Terraflops of processing information.
--------------------------------------------------
Hideo Kojima has been spotted at the event- Is this a sign of things to come?
--------------------------------------------------
The conference has just started.
PSP connectivity. P2P service. WiFi. Cool.
I'm getting a Revolution or PS3, or both. Goodbye X360

I can't imagine it being more than 400 dollars for the basic package.

It may not be all that bad to program for anyway:
Gamespot wrote:Sony also unveiled the PS3's graphics chip, the RSX "Reality Synthesizer based on Nvidia technology. The GPU will be capable of 128bit pixel precision, 1080p resolution, some of the highest HD resolution around. It also has over 300 million transistors lager than any processor available commercially today. It was manufactured using the 90nm process with 8 layers of metal. The RSX is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 ultras, which would cost rough $1000 if bought today.
To show off the PlayStation 3's graphical brawn, Sony showed several game demos, including an Unreal 3 tech demo of what appeared to be Unreal Tournament 2007. In what must come as a relief to developers, Epic Games' Tim Sweeney was on hand to vouch for the PS3, saying it was "easy to program for" and that Epic had received its first PS3 hardware two months ago. He proved the tech demo was real time by showing it again and manipulating the camera and zooming in.

Fuck Sony, they're continuing their piece of shit CD design; Why did they
need to introduce a Caddy? Top loading works for every game system invented.

Says VII, might be a typo.
I wonder if this game will be on the Revolution too, or if Square Enix will still only give Nintendo the Crystal Chronicles series, after their recent announcement of support for Nintendo.

It's a nice trick, isn't it?
It's measured in megaBITS. Quick math reveals its actually 40.5 MB per second.
Which is not bad at all. 12 seconds to fill up the 512 MB of RAM.
The PS3 should murder the XBox 360 in loading times since its still on DVD-9.

The PS3 controller looks like a manta ray, in other words, fucking stupid.

"I'm sorry 360, these things happen, I've met a someone who can really understand me..."
Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my mouth. Sounds good, bye-bye 360, hello PS3.

whoah....
the controller looks weird, but it still looks like I can work with it...
the specs....dear gods the specs.
I can't wait to hear what Nintendo has in store for us now, it looks like I will be getting a PS3 and a Revolution over the 360 now.
and with full backward capatibility to the PSOne, well.....
Looks like Best Buy will be getting my PS3 for value so I can get a "discounted" PS3 (bought the extended warrenty in january when i got the PS2, Was told I could turn in the PS2 for full credit towards a PS3 when it came out next year if I did it....was a no brainer).

2 monitor outputs + the capability of rendering 1080 x 2 channels + 7 bluetooth controllers allowed = 7 players over two screens with one console.
Sweetness...
