What Star Wars Game Should I Buy?

I'm looking to purchase a Star Wars game in the near future, but there's so many I don't know which to pick. I have TIE Fighter, X-Wing, and X-Wing Alliance. I *know* I don't want Galactic Battlegrounds.

But there's still a fairly dazzling array of choices, so recommendations would be appreciated. Right now I'm leaning towards either Battlefront or Republic Commando, but unable to decide.

I don't have much interest in the Rogue Squadron games. The Jedi Knight games have been fun the few times I've played them, but I think I'd prefer one of the above FPS'. I've heard good things about Knights of the Old Republic, but not much detail.

KOTOR is a fantastic RPG. I would highly recommend getting it even if you weren't a SW fan.
Star Wars: Battlefront is a fairly decent FPS, lots of vehicles, and some really great battles. Sadly, the AI is literally dumber than a pile of rocks, and the online play is kinda laggy, but if you can find a good server, the game is pure gold.

KoTOR series is honestly a good RPG series.

Battlefront is eh...some good point but the AI is truly asslicking dumb.

Republic Commado is a watered down group combat, but honestly is some good fun.

Strangely if you can find it decently, I would recommend Episode 3 for the Lightsaber combat. That and it has the Obi/Vader Duel in it for completion.

Republic Commando actualy gives you the most useful team AI I have ever seen in a game. It set a new standard in that regard. Sure a lot of it was scripted, but it works very well and RC is a very fun game.

Lego Star Wars. Possibly my favourite Star Wars game ever. It makes the PT a funny, quirky adventure that makes most of the other games look positively dull.

Get KOTOR and then Republic Commando. KOTOR is a pretty good RPG. Better than most, but not quite up to Fallout Spec IMO. Republic Commando is like.. Halo. But Star Wars. With clones and wookies.

LEGO Star Wars. Fun for the whole family! Kill Jar Jar! Need I say more?

LEGO Star Wars.

Yoda and Palpatine on Naboo killing Gungans.

That is the ESSENCE of gameplay and awesomeness right there!

PC, I don't know, Jedi Outcast does it for me. It's so fucking Jedi.

Console, right now, I'm getting my jollies off of Jedi Power Battles II...err...The Episode III game. It may be short, but damn it's smooth.

So ixnay on the ntbattlefro-ay?

How good is the multiplayer for Republic Commando?

EDIT:

Hey, Lego Star Wars looks kick ass. Rebellion's reviews are somewhat lukewarm and on Amazon it's absurdly expensive (nearly 50 fucking dollars!).

I hear Lego Star Wars is short, but well worth it since you can unlock 30 damn characters. As far as Battlefront goes, it's almost not worth it now. It was awesome right when it came out, but then no one wanted to play it. Battlefront 2 comes out this fall, and is going to have so many more additions to the game, plus game variants, instead of just 'capture territories'. So I would just wait for that.

I definately second the votes for KOTOR. Its engrossing, absorbing and really lots and lots of fun. The second one suffers from some missing scenes in the later game due to it being rushed onto the shelves, but theres a patch on the way to fix that, apparently.

I know you've said you prefer other FPSs, but you should give Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast another try.

Especially Academy, where you can get Dual sabers and Staff Sabers. Many an afternoon did I spend slicing people up online, and much fun was had by all. Except the force-push spamming bastards.

Just remember the standard quote of the entire series:
Kyle Katarn wrote:AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

*lightsaber extinguishing sound*

*clink* *clink*
And thus the Jedi Pit Weakness is proven, once again.

Most definitely KOTOR. There really isn't any contest here.

You can find much better FPS games than Republic Commando or Battleground. Especially the latter suffers from horrible graphics, poor gameplay and lack of single player story. RC has some good moments, based on short testing, but it's pretty *meh* compared to other great FPS titles out there.

Not only is KOTOR a great Star Wars game (in my opinion, the best ever together with TIE Fighter and Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight), but it's an awesome computer-RPG, almost on the same level with Fallouts and Baldur's Gate 2. When I played KOTOR for the first time, it felt like watching ANH for the first time. The same magic was there.

After playing KOTOR like mad, you'll probably end up buying KOTOR 2 since you will like the first game so much, which means extra money loss. :) It's a great game, too, but suffers from rushed completion. Hopefully, the upcoming fan-made patch fixes this.

Grab Jedi Academy. You'll probably get more value out of KOTOR, honestly...but the lightsabre combat and use of force powers in Jedi Academy is incredibly tight. It has a coolness factor that's hard to beat.

JA's pretty fun, but it's storyline's darn thin. It's lightsaber combat is second to none though, but later on.. you'll realize that you just need to force-fling Sith around, and you can blaze through entire levels without getting hurt. Gets dull.

KOTOR is good if you don't mind a totally non-action game, though.

Tell me it is so. TELL ME!!!!! (I will buy that game in a heart beat if it is, or steal it, kill for it, arson sounds reasonable to me....)

Free play mode, get you and a bud. Select whatever damn characters you want and start slaughtering (you have to be quick though - those buggers run through the scenes damn fast).

The Jedi Knight games, plus Dark Forces, if you can find it, were a lot of fun, although outdated by now. Same for X-Wing and TIE Fighter.

I personally didn't think KOTOR was that great of a SW game (or at least what a SW game should be). It was a pretty good play-once RPG, but the second time through left me bored even when doing things different, and the setting/story just isn't that hot. It feels much more like "D&D Goes to Young Jedi Knights' SW Galaxy". Very unoriginal and not up to BG's standard (though I have trouble getting into that too. I may just find WoTC/Bioware's style & repitoire of story elements to be boring), let alone Fallout.

And SW: Rebellion was only cool on the draft board. As a game it sucked.

Seconded. I bought a copy of it, and played it until I realized the utter shite that it is.

My opinion: X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. My first multiplayer game, and my best. There are still organizations out there holding tournaments for it.

What I would like is a 3rd person game, made for dueling with sabers, though guns would be nice too, essentially like Jedi: Academy or outcast but with much more advanced swordplay abilities, it would so rock to get another game that could rival Die By The Sword.
