Right, looking for a Virus checker, and I don't want to use Norton, so any suggestions kind folks?
By the way, a shareware program would be the most optimal solution if possible, please.

You want AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. It has continuous updates, an Email scanner, and most other usual features. It can't scan inside RAR archives though and I'm not sure about ZIP archives, but those shouldn't matter too much if you're careful.
