Don't ask me how. I'm sitting here, looking at my CD drive as it blinks and doesn't show up on the explorer. I've reset twice, even turned off the computer and fired it back up. Zip. Had when I installed JK earlier, gone when I went to insert the CD for patch commander to work.
Help.

Open the case and check the cables.

If your running WinXP this is actually seems to be a fairly common problem. I've run into it on one of my systems at home and several at work. Reinstalling the drivers (assuming you can even get them to install properly) for your drives through device manager doesnt do squat.
The solution can be found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320553
Make sure you back up your registry first, then browse to the following location through REGEDIT: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Delete the values for UPPER REGISTRY and LOWER REGISTRY, exit the registry editor and reboot your machine. The drives should be back in My Computer/Explorer and working.
Of course this also assumes youve checked the basics, and its not just a hardware crap out. Best way to know its the above problem is when you have multiple cd rom or dvd rom drives and they both go missing.
