Need LCD monitor suggestions.

Post by Alyeska »

My poor 19" True Flat CRT is dying on me and I need a new monitor. I've heard the LCDs finaly hit performance levels that are sufficent to let them compete with CRT monitors. Whats better is I've seen just how low the prices have gone as well.

I am looking at getting something ranging from a 17" up to a 19" LCD monitor. I watch movies and play games on my machine. Price is a concern, just so it doesn't go over $400, though under $300 is preferable if possible.

Anyway, anyone have suggestions on good monitors or companies to buy from?

I love my Neovo E-19. Its still literaly state of the art, though I think there is a newer model out that superceads the base technology.

Of course it cost me 1600 Australian and thats CHEAP.

I'm in a similar situation: I'm looking for a LCD monitor, preferrably 21"+, hopefully widescreen. I'm sick of using the TV to watch movies properly! :) Getting an LCD TV is unacceptable, given the awful resolution etc etc, it has to be primarily a monitor. I'm thinking US$800-1200?

At the 19+ Inch, Dell are very very good, but I really like my Samsung 913N, though its a VGA output :(

Still, great monitor, I second the Samsung reccomendation.

Analog only.

If your graphic card supports digital you should go for a digital screen.

Othervise it looks good.

Whoops, wrong monitor.

This is the one I am looking at getting

The price is right and the response time has me quite impressed.

@Alyeska:

25 ms refresh - I'd try to avoid it.

Edit - I was looking at the wrong one. The new one looks fairly impressive [/edit]

I have two Dell UltraSharp 2005 20.1" monitors at work, and both are very good, but also out your price range (unless you can find a deal). It plays Rome:TW very well, too. The 19" Dell should also be a very good monitor, and while its a little over your price range, you might be able to get a coupon or talk a sales rep into letting you get for $400.

@Stark: If your willing to spend $1200 on a monitor, you can get the Dell 24" LCD inch monitor (Ultrasharp 2405FPW). It can do up 1920x1200 pixels (including 1080p HD). I just shelled out for it (and it should be here in three weeks - hopefully sooner). I've read a ton of user reviews at Anandtech's forum and the avsforum, and all but two have love it (one had dead pixels, the other probably didn't know how to adjust his graphics settings). Apparently the monitor can't play macrovision DVDs through the component video inputs (the macrovision signal screws up the sync - not a problem if you're playing from a PC through the DVI or RGB), but for PC, consoles and HDTV this thing kicks major amounts of ass). Also, again, the Ultrasharp 2001s are also very good, and are under $800.
Artillery. Its what's for dinner.

Where?
Interface Analog
Not that the difference is that big, but digital is better.

Yea my brand new Dell 1905 is absolutly great. And it is the same as Samsung 193p but cheaper. Only the logo on the front is different.

Google turned up nothing but good reviews on the 730B

Make sure to get a DVI cable (Digital) and you are all set, that one looks like a good buy.

Just picked up the monitor. Going to eventualy have to get a digital cable, but this will suffice for now.
