Currently my computer (specs available if needed) has no DVD-ROM drive and so I am interested in purchasing a good drive for not too great a cost. Any advice?

Most DVD-ROM drives are about the same; if you're willing to spend $50 or so you can buy a DVD-RW (e.g. NEC ND-3520)

I second the NEC ND-3520. I happen to have one in my computer, and it works great.

Furthermore, that particular burner happens to be of extremely high quality. I've heard nothing but praise for it.

Fairly cheap and extremely high quality. All computer parts should be so.

I assume I'll be able to tear the current CD-ROM drive out of my Dell case and hook up this beast without too much trouble?

Yes.

Dells are known for occassionally having wonky power supply connectors to the motherboard (which is why i'll never buy a dell desktop), but the molex connector and IDE port should be standard.

If you don't happen to have burning software, you might want to get the retail version of that drive, which includes Nero.

Also, get the version that matches the color of your case. They have beige, silver and black, all for about the same price.
