Getting a stubborn AVI to work

Alright, I think I'm competant, though not inspired at getting things to work, but this has just been a nightmare to sort out.
I have six AVI files downloaded by bittorrent, DivX encoded with some obscure Audio codec. Downloaded all that and so forth. They're all terribly corrupted, but I can deal with bad picture quality. Using an AVI fixer and getting the right audio codec helps the first two, but the latter four don't work at all.
I tested it on four different media players and each one is different.
Quicktime- Plays a single second of audio and then stops working.
Realplayer- Crashes with a frozen picture, sound works.
DivX- frozen picture, sound loops the first second, thencrashes.
Windows Media Player- immediately exits itself without doing anything to play the file, or shows the first frame with no audio and then crashes.
All DivX and AVI fixers (I've tried four, individually and in combination) show 0 bad frames, even when using them fixed the former two.
I also redownloaded the file twice (torrents always do this to me) and it is always broken. I'm stumped. Is there any way to fix it without tearing out my hair, or are they irrevocably lost?
Edit- And amazingly enough, after getting them to work once neither of the two I could fix are operable either. If torrenting is the future, I'm stocking up on vacuum tubes.
