OK, I got my new server. It's sitting in the basement at home. Final specs:
Asus A8N-E motherboard
AMD Athlon64 3000+
2GB Kingston DDR400 RAM
Two Western Digital 74GB Raptor 10k SATA drives
NVidia FX6200 128MB PCIExpress card
Antec TX1050B case with 500W ATX2 power supply
I'm going to have to decide how to best partition it for installing Linux, and then I'll run it for a while and do some stability testing before replacing the current server with it.

Nice system, but that grapic card is a overkill on a server
Time for a donation drive?

If I remember correctly, it's not going to be
just a server. Money is an issue, after all.

Hehehe. I got Protoss 'Carrier has arrived!' vibes from the thread title. That said, rock on, not a bad little setup. Entirely a desktop, non-server setup, but I'm biased

I can already tell it's much faster than the old one. It's noticeably faster even during the OS install.

I caught a 'Death Star has arrived' vibe. Course it could be the tidal effects from that monster's gravity...

My first reaction was an MMO style 'Grats!'

Will the enhanced board performance with this new server result in the main board search function being reenabled?

It's the Death Star of Servers
How appropriate

I find these requests for pics to be somewhat perplexing; what is there to look at? It's a black computer case. If I open it up, you'll see a motherboard, some cabling, a couple of hard drives, a video card, a power supply, a CPU fan, etc. Superficially, it would look almost identical to the current server.

Perhaps they have a computer fetish and are turned on by pictures of naked computers...?

Obviously they are thinking it'll look more like

To be honest I just think it's interesting to actually see what people get, in their actual evironment and all that. I know that I personally like taking pictures of my new stuff and showing it to others, particularly if it's something obscure or unique.
Additionally, it was also sort of a joke.

It's quite sad to want to see pics of a damn hunk of components in an uninteresting beige shell. Unless the casing is shaped like Monica Belluci's chest or a scale model of a Venator, I doubt it warrants bandwidth wasted on images.

In positive news, 24 hours of intensive testing with Memtest86 3.1a have failed to produce an error or even heat up the CPU (those new 90nm cores run relatively cool). I do believe it's time to start configuring it for installation.

Wow. I have zero understanding of all the technical jargon, but it sounds really sweet. Congratulations, man. How much did it cost (probably a fucking lot)?

Will there be any benefits for the board from moving to a 64-bit processor
or does the phpBB not support it in any useful fashion?
