Sorry if this has been posted before but do you guys have any recommendations for a firewall and virus scanner? (free if at all possible)

I am currently using McAfee for both these tasks but it has a tendancy of eating my system resources and bringing my computer to a stand still whenever I browse through my harddrive.

Thank you

I'd like to add Avast! to antivirus scanners. That or AVG will do you well.

For firewalls, I'll second Sygate Personal Firewall. Zonealarm is easy to use, but gives you less control over its configuration.
The XP firewall is good too; only thing against it is it's inbound only.
