Quick Question About Burning Files to DVD

I've just decided to wipe my HD and reinstall Windows XP, but I need to backup my files. I'm out of CDs and they're kinda expensive, but I do have a stack of shiny blank DVD-Rs. If I burn all my files to the DVDs (or "a" DVD, I'll probably only need one), I can easily copy them off onto my HD like a normal CD, right? No worries?

Uh, that's odd. I pasted the files into the DVD, hit the "write files to disk" button, and it tells me that no writable disc is present. I have a DVD-RW drive, so this shouldn't be happening...

AFAIK Windows Xp built-in burning program only supports CDs, not DVDs.
Use a specific program to burn them.

I'll get flamed for this but I love Nero.

I used to have a copy of Nero but I lost the disc...I'll have to look into seeing if I could get a free limited-features version. It was quite handy.
Anyway, I grabbed something called DeepBurner. Probably load up my system with spyware but its all going to die in the coming apocalypse so I don't really care. Again, everyone, thanks for all your help, many now I won't need to spam this forum with my computer problems.

Look for CDBurnerXP, it's a free burning app that IIRC supports DVDs as well.
