Help, Azureus just bit off my penis!

OK, I've been using Azureus for the last few months or so now. My internet's been down for the last two weeks, so i was eager to get all my torrents downloading again. When i started it, all the torrents were still on 'Checking' after about 5 minutes, so i exited, planning to simply start it again. It then froze, but i could still click the close button (the corner x i mean) whereupon i got the 'Whatever Not Responding' and hit 'End Now'.
I had over 20 torrents downloading, most multi-GB series, at various levels of completion. I say 'had' because when i started Azureus again it came up with all this 'Welcome to Azureus 2.3.0.2' and a config wizard, even though i'm pretty sure i had updated to 2.3.0.3 ages ago. All my torrents were gone. Now, all the data is still there in the folder i download the stuff to- but AFAIK if i open their torrents again they'll start from 0% and all that time and effort will be erased.
So my questions are:
Is this known to happen?; and
How do i get my torrents going again without having to redo all the completed data?!

If the torrent data and the downloaded content is still there then if azareus starts saving to those same folders it should pick up the completed parts and carry on. (That's what happened with me anyways)

That's reassuring, but i dimly remember trying it with a relatively small torrent ages ago and it started back from 0%, and I simply can't bring myself to risk losing many gigabytes and weeks worth of stuff.

OK, forgive me, but I nearly fell off my chair at the title....
Isn't FUQ'ing done for memorable quotes. FUQ it, whoever does that!
Otherwise - do it. I don't think there's a way to recover your progress beyond restarting the download. Sorry. Sometimes Azereus remembers your progress, sometimes you have to re-download all of "Green With Evil"......
*cough*
Ahem. Anyway, just try restarting it. If it works, it works. There's no other way.

Just make sure, if you've got the harddrive space for it, to copy and paste a copy of the files/folders to a safe place first, before trying to resume the originals (one at a time).

I too vote for a good hearty FUQing.
On topic, Do the back up like said, and then if it doesn't work try it with another client.

I'm pretty sure there's an option to just open the torrent file without allocating a data file first... That should solve your problem.

OK, i backed up a small one and tested reopening the torrent. It started back at 0%, so I thought it was screwed, but a bit later after it conected to peers and started downloading some more it jumped up to what it was before.
So, crisis averted!
Thanks for your help guys *thumbs-up*

A bit late, but apparently, you lost the config file for Azeureus, where it remembers all the torrents you installed and ran on your comp. I don't know whether this will affect you, but you should check any older downloaded files that you were seeding for other people, some of those files may now have been gone, or more likely, are now unable to burn to a CD.
And if you're running chinese text like me for most of my torrents, well, that's another whole new problem altogether.
