Im shoure alot of you have played ia. Its not the best game in the world but with the amount of mods out there for it you cant get boared with it.

Now what i wont to know is do you think thay should make a number 2?

P.S I know starlancer was the first but i mean another free lancer

Freelancer was just a wannabe Independence War 2, watered down with a hefty dose of Diablo. One was more than enough.

I would rather have them make Starlancer 2 so they can finish off their damn story.

I would like to see another Freelancer or Starlancer, but I'd be happier if it also had joystick support in addition to mouse flight. I'm just more comfortable flying stick (particularly since I have a somewhat nice one now), and I was notorious in multiplayer for hitting the wrong mouse button.

Freelancer.

Minus rediculous non-scaling enemies. (Yeah, right, a war's plausible when any Kusari or Rheinland fighter can plaster a Liberty wing without even breathing hard.)

Minus the freaking Nomads. (Oooh, great job, take an engaging story and fuck it up the ass with no warning.)

Minus, if one must have the Nomads, the shitty, shitty, poorly-written Deus Ex Machina ending. OMGZOR, they couldn't take the rebalancing of power and so all flew into a portal and disappeared! ROFLCOPTER, we win!

Plus capital ships that matter.

Plus capital ships in non-story segments that aren't made of Invincibium Plate.

Plus a story that doesn't end abruptly 2/3 of the way through the game's equipment progression.

Plus a decent control scheme.

...And you have Independence War 2. Or at least a decent game.

Bah.

Play X-2.

And then look at X-3: Re-union preview screenshots. Rubber pants may be required.

Well for X-3 I hope they get a better control scheme and interface. After playing I-War2, X-2's controls and interface paled in comparison. And learn X-2's controls took forever. I also hope the reduce the travel time.

Now if they'd make I-War3...

Not going to happen. Particle Systems is dead, and Atari/Infogrames hates to give up IP rights.

Yeah, I figured as much.

What has Freespace got to do with Freelancer? :?

Freelancer was ok. Nothing spectacular. Same with Starlancer. Both were inferior to Freespace 2. Especially in terms of scale, Starlancer's capital ships in particular were pathetically scaled.

Independence War 2 is still the most kickass of the free roamers. Though it could've done without the one-man pilot contrivance. The four-man command crew setup of the original was far more engaging.

If a Freelancer 2 is to be produced, it must have JOYSTICK SUPPORT.

I know that really runed the story.

I'v got X-2 but i didnt think much of the controls for the game and it took forever to get anywhere. I'll still get X-3 just cos of the amount you can do on it. I love building up a system all to my self, I never did get the hand of building my own capital ships tho.

For that one. /\

I'v never played I-War2 but i'll give it a look if its that good.

Freelancer 2 was garbage and I hated it. Any number of other games were far better. If I could choose any Space Sim franchise to resurrect with voodoo magic (tm) it would TIE Fighter, followed by Freespace. Neither of which will ever be continued, I personally guarantee you.

TIE Fighter and Freespace 2 weren't just awesome space simulators, they were some of the best damn games ever made, period. TIE Fighter was very engaging, well-crafted (especially for its day), and turned the whole Star Wars game franchise around on the player. There was nothing like the skin-of-your-teeth gameplay of putting your TIE to the test. That was when Lucasarts made excellent games--and those days are over.

Freespace 2 was the last truly great space-combat simulator, and I think it left the others in the dust. The truly impressive capital ships, the wicked awesome gameplay, the fascinating story, the "wow" factor--it was an amazing game. Too bad it sold poorly and the company that made it disappeared.

X2 rocked....except for when it didn't. Was so close to being a shining example of teh best of the best, and my own, personal Titan-class destroyer was a joy to rip into things with :)

Pablo, can I borrow your time machine? You see, Freelancer 2 has not even been announced let alone made. Yet you've played it some how and pronounced it utter garbage. That means you have a time machine.

oh come on! Of course they're gonna make Freelancer 2! If you'd actually been paying attention to the horrendous plot, they said that The Order would keep an eye on the Nomads, which obviously implies that something is going to happen with them again. If not them, then the aliens who created them or something.

Also, can I borrow that time machine when you're done with it?

Freespace was excellent, but it's flight model was too slow for me. I'm used to ridiculously fast models such as the X-Wing games, or Wing Commander or X-COM interceptor (the fastest thing ever.).

I'd rather them go Freespace 3, or Wing Commander... uh... 7. Or hell, even make a new ressurection of Into the Fire. ;P

Freelancer suffered from a complete lack of dogfight gameplay, really crappy capital ships, too much travel, stupid enemies, and ships/guns that are totally bland. Ah yes, and the Body snatchers and their 'go away' button at the end.

Too slow? I can understand some mission starts being slow but most of the time it was blazing fast. Unless you take an Ursa. Then your basicly a truck driver with a big "HIT ME" sign.

The flight model strikes me as too slow. I mean, if you've got an enemy in your sights, there's very little stopping you from blowing them from the sky from behind. Or them to you at hard difficulty. Other games such as Wing Commander, X-Wing or X-COM Interceptor or even B5: I've Found Her has you hyper maneuverable and way, way faster. It's like if you played Freespace where everyone maneuvered at twice the speed, or three times. So you can jink out of the way of fire. :P

Eh.... as long as the enemy isn't using Subachs or something that can kill me in 3 shots*glares at Keysers* you can get out, sharp turn somewhere, apply afterburner, loop. Works most of the time.

I usually kept one finger on the temporary deceleration button. You hit that as you make your turn, and when you're pointed the way you want to go you slam your afterburners. This allows for very tight turns and you can lose pursuing AI fighters pretty easily.

The problem with that is unless you time it right, for a few seconds your a sitting duck.

Sitting duck in a capital ship battle(most AI dogfights) is not where you want to be.
