Gate's has already said that Halo3 will be out the day the PS3 goes on sale. Which I think is a great way to spoil the competition's moment!

Shelling out for an Xbox 360 to get it is still a bit of a buzz kill, but regardless:

Sweet. :)

And also a great way to kill Halo 3 sales.

Especially if the game is rushed and shitty. Has Bungie even started on it yet? :?

They started on it as soon as Halo2 was done. There is a reason Halo2 finished like it did.

Bet it doesnt. The PS3 is going to be expensive.

Microsoft also appears to want the Halo movie either just before the game. The Halo series is easily the highest selling console games, and the 3rd is highly unlikely to be anything else.

Whenever two competing titles or systems occur at the same time, sales always drop. People will have to choose, and automaticaly both competitors take a hit.

So how long will we have to wait for the other half of this game to come out? ;)

This isnt a competing titles or systems.

It is a title competing with a system, one is a game for an existing system another is a completely different product which will cost more than the Xbox 360.

I was making a joke, because Halo 2 is like a game that ends half-way. But since you're so stupid, you didn't get it.

Exactly. $50-$60 versus $450-$500. While Halo3 won't keep diehard PS fans from getting a PS3, its probably more than enough to get the gamer that plays both MS and Sony systems to put off a PS3 purchase for a while.

And if even both sides take a hit in sales, Gates still will have a put a dent in Sony's sales, which was the whole point to begin with.

This isn't about stealing Sony's sales per say, it's about stealing value from the Playstation brand. Not only will Halo 3 merit a lot of press, but Microsoft can come out and say "We have a AAA title availible, while Sony has nothing but crappy launch titles".

The importance of this cannot be overstated, Sony is not going to have a realistic competitor to Halo 3 at launch. Sony's launch games have always been crap, and I don't see the PS3 launch being any different.

Because of this, gamers are going to be asking themselves whether they want to pay more money for the PS3 (probably $100 more) just to play a handful of first gen titles, or whether they want to buy an Xbox 360 for less money, with at least one kick ass game for it. This isn't just going to hit Sony's sales at launch, this is the kind of kick in the mouth that will hurt them for long after the PS3 is released.

Actually, they probably started well before that. Microsoft knows how much Halo did for the Xbox launch, they no doubt wanted to go for a one-two punch with Halo 3.

Microsoft has a time-honoured tradition of blunting opponent's sales at the expense of their own. They can afford it.

Not the number of pre-orders for Halo3 when MS starts running the marking blitz for it in everything from Movie Theaters and Online Trailers to extra content on 360 games and whatnot.
