I was wondering can you use clip art images from Word in your own web site or on 3rd party sites. Also are you allowed to edit said images and put them on your own or third party web site? I tried looking on the Microsoft website but could not find anything does anyone here know.

Read through your EULA. It probably says something about it in it. But if you do not expressly have permission to use it, play it safe and don't.

Clip art comes in Microsoft Office. Thats used professionaly. Not just private.

I would say read very carefully all relevant legalese in those multiple page EULAs and stuff on the microsoft website.

Its a pain in the arse, but take it from me (who's been going through the same shit) its worth it so you don't get raped by angry lawyers.

Wrong. Copyrights need to be filed for, much like trademarks or patents. They are not automatic rights once a work is completed. Also, things like clipart afaik, are usually public domain given how utterly generic much of the images are. What you can do with things like clipart is typically included in the program that it comes with.
