Svchost.exe?

So, whenever I look in task manager I see that there's usually about 8 different processes named svchost.exe. In the "user name" column, most of them belong to SYSTEM but some have LOCAL SERVICE and NETWORK SERVICE (I'm not on a network). A quick google reveals that svchost.exe is important to windows, but doesn't give me any info on whether there should be more than one instance of it.

Does anyone know what the deal with this is? It's a bit worrying, really.

I got that too. I think it's normal.

This is normal.

Dont kill it, you will just cause yourself major problems.

edit: Svchost is the Service Host, various services run in it. Stuff like; themes, audio layer, time managment, DCHP, DNS client, UPnP support, etc.

Basicly it makes your computer do stuff.

Teach a man to fish
Just ask google: <filename> process
Chances are good you'll wind up at one of the big process library websites. Generally speaking they'll know most of the common good/bad ones.
