Star Trek Armada II

Activision apparently stopped making the game after only a short release, and I never saw it in stores. Does anyone know where I can get a copy for a reasonable price ($30 or less)? I've already tried eBay, but the prices always end up ballooning above $40.

I don't know how widespread it is, but I recommend looking out for the Star Trek Action Pack.
I has Armada I & II, as well as Elite Force and the expansion.
That cost me about $40AU, so I think that's about $30US.

The action pack sells for US $100+ these days.

Hm - some googling suggest wildly varying prices. A mint used copy is
insanely expensive on Amazon, but a decent copy goes for
$12 in some eBay stores. Odd.

Okay, just bought the Action Pack for $12 on eBay, and it includes Armada II. Hopefully, I wasn't scammed, but we'll see once the delivery is made. That's what feedback is for though, and I'm withholding mine until I get the package. His feedback rating is 96 positive to three negative, so I'm hopeful.

Be sure to grab some mods. They are the best part of the game. The standard game comes with an incompetent cheating AI, and terrible techtree (victory determined by how many Galaxies, Warbirds or someother race specific battleship you can build). While I have not played it I have seen comments that the older Armada 1 is a better game.
http://armada2.filefront.com/ for all Armada 2 needs. The patch should be the downloaded asap because 1.0 has some bugs like an even worse AI. Good expansion mods include Borg Incursion and Fleet Ops.

Already have the first
Armada game, with all the mods. I was looking forward to the second installment for just that purpose -- have already downloaded the mods.

Was indeed the real McCoy -- the full set for just 12 bucks.
Not bad.

Hmm, I looked up a copy on eBay, and there's this one from the UK seems like a good deal, but it says they're in PAL format.
I thought Pal/NTSC was only on TV's.
Does it apply to PC's as well, or did the seller just make a mistake?

I got the action pack for a handful of euros myself.

Jeeze, I never knew that Armada 2 was so popular. Does anyone here actually employ a strategy beyond build a bunch of Sovs and Galaxies, attack starbase, repeat?

My strategy is to download & install the SW v. ST mod, build butt-loads of Imperial craft, and wipe out the Feddies. Usually ally myself with Klingons or some such -- just can't picture allying with the Federation ... but do enjoy seeing them decimated.

Download the Star Wars: Fleet Command mod sometime. Superlasers, Centerpoint and Interdictors galor...great stuff.
The SSD rules.

The SW vs ST mod was scratched though. The last version had the Empire and Rebels vs Federation and Klingons, HOWEVER it lacked the superships and superweapons and some other extras.
The SW vs ST mod eventually turned into Star Wars Fleet Command, which GREATLY expanded on the Star Wars side but didn't have Star Trek in it. The superweapons rock. Centerpoint and the "great purple ball of death" is scary though. My favorite superweapon.

Yeah, you're right. PAL/NTSC is for TV only and has no bearing whatsoever on PC games.
I'd still be careful about buying it as it's possible the seller has misidentified some other form of region restriction as "PAL/NTSC".
I'm not aware of any such region restrictions on Armada II, but that doesn't mean they don't exist because bluntly put, that isn't my area of expertise.

I got the action pack long ago....I didn't know that Armada II was discontinued. I like it better than Armada I. Good game.
