You need a decryption program to rip it into an editable format, such as dvd-decrypter, and you need software capable of editing the files you rip. Unfortunately this also means you need a sizable amount of hard space, given DVD .vob files (the files most rips are done in initially), are quite large.

This is also somewhat sketchy legally, seeing that in order to do this you need to work around the built-in encryption in your DVDs, even though you -should- be able to legally do with them what you like as long as it doesn't violate fair-use laws.

Just do a google search for a DVD ripper. For the decrypter, I reccomend AnyDVD, gives you a free trial, or another one I have DVD region and css free. You can find all the software you need on like downloads.com.

Circumventing DVD encryption is a violation of the US DMCA, unfortunately. There are tools to rip the VOBs to your computer and from there many tools exist to change it from MPEG2 to other formats. Check doom9 for more details.
