I just found out that Google has released an IM program with VOIP features. I was rather surprised and pleased; I've been waiting for this ever since Gmail was announced.

I was hoping to see a thread about it here, but my quick search found nothing, so discuss!

Google Talk

Google Talk announced on Slashdot

Upon first glance it seems very simple but I'll reserve judgement until I get a few friends on it and give it a test run. It appears to use more memory than MirandaIM which is a bit dissapointing.

EDIT: Oh good, you can already use Google Talk with other clients as well.

I've already downloaded it, it's pretty but until I can use it to talk with messenger or icq users as I can with trillian it's going to languish on my desktop.

It's a pity that the client doesn't have many features to speak of, besides the VOIP. It's hard to convince people to adopt it.

Tried it, sound quality sucked ass, never had that problem with other programs.

From what I read, it is a far cry from established clients like Skype, AIM, or even meta-clients, like Trillian...
Why use inferior tooling, when there is so much better tooling available?

Never tried it yet, it does however tie in with Gmail and works as a nice mail notifier as well, and Gmail is a very good webservice.

I dunno about using it for talk anyway but I got both skype and GT.
