Three indicted in U.S. spam crackdown

Post by The Grim Squeaker »

Ahh, it's nice to see spammers getting their day in court :-) Three low-life spammers have been indicted by an Arizona grand jury and are considered to be in the top 200 as far as spammers go:

Three people accused of sending massive amounts of spam face possible prison sentences after being indicted by a grand jury in Arizona and accused of violating the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 and other charges, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement.

Named in the indictment are Jennifer R. Clason, Jeffrey A. Kilbride and James R. Schaffer. The three are accused of sending spam that advertised pornographic Web sites, the DOJ said in a statement. They could make money from commissions that the Web sites paid in return for directing traffic to their sites, the statement said.

They should also get fined so much that they lose all their ill-gotten profits, and they should be barred from operating a computer for five years.

While it's a nice gesture, the anti-spam laws really aren't going to do anything. Spammers will just set up shop in countries that don't have such laws and there is nothing we can do to stop them short of cutting of the country in question from the internet entirely.

I prefer taken out back and shot but that works too.

If we wanted to be cruel, we could mandate absolutely no computers whatsoever.

That would forbid all modern cell phones, ATMs, a lot of cars made in the past two decades, modern TVs... shit, you name it.

Without his ill-gotten riches, he'd pretty much have to live destitute in a shack in some rural area.

Since they can't get the death penalty, I say we do the next best thing: sentence them to NARFLE THE GARTHOK! :D

Your idea is good, too, Uraniun.
