iPod and USB

Post by 2000AD »

CUtting out the backstory i just got my replacement iPod and it says i need USB 2.0. Now my old iPod said that but also said that i could use regualr USB it would just be slower (and it was).

However the new iPod manual doesn't say whetehr or not i can use regualr USB and not USB 2.0.

So does anyone know if i can use regular USB on a new 60GB iPod?

Yes, my laptop hasn't got USB 2.0 and it works fine with the new photo iPods. Thank goodness I've got a firewire option as well, I'd be there for ages.

Incidentally, what went wrong with your old one? Mine died after a year and a month due to some sort of fatal harddrive crash.

And as another addendum, does anyone know what harddrives the iPod's use and whether they're available to purchase anywhere? I've read about people repairing their own, but am not really sure where to begin.

Phew.

The port where i stick the headphones in went faulty. Basically i had to hold the plug at an angle or part of the song would be missing, sometimes the bass line, sometimes the vocals.
I'd had it for about 6 months when it started doing this.
Eventually it got to the point where if i didn't hold it down with my finger all the time i'd only hear 1 part of the song (the drums normally).
(and yes, it definately was the port. i tried 3 sets of headphones and even bought the iPod remote and tried the headphones again and it was the same.)
