So they finally convinced me and I bought the machine I was never going to buy. And it's pretty sweet so far.
I want to buy 1 or 2 games for it and because they are on the expensive side I want to make sure they're any good. Which games do you guys recommend? I heared lumines is pretty good. Or if I go for a race game, which one is best? Wipeout ot ridge racer?

Lumines is supposed to be great and wipeout has a web-browser (although the next firmware update should include a browser).
I've been thinking about getting a psp for my birthday but I'm waiting for the next rumoured nintendo in a year or two, I just love metroid too much .( dont have DS though).
Also you could get some of the movies out for it or buy a good memory stick and download some roms, you can even play super NES games with an emulator

Lumines is said to be like a digital version of crack, if I'm to believe the reviews and the people who played it. Not quite as brilliant as Meteos, but close enough.

Wipeout Pure and RR are pretty much tied, Wipeout is more thrilling but RR has more longetivity.

Anyway, there is a shop here offering the 3rd psp game for free if you buy 2 games so I'll be heading there tomorrow

Any chance those memory sticks will go cheaper in the future? Or is Sony simply to evil for that?

They're putting a 3-D GTA game on PSP. Since I am such a fanwhore I will probably go and buy it just for that.

In other news, I noticed Advance wars: dual strike (DS) is getting massive positive reviews. On that, its also pretty cheap so I'm afraid I'll have to buy that too.

And there's quite a few computer-related jokes in there. They make a Microsoft related jab with one of the special attacks is "Blue Screen of Death", and one of the characters likes internet slang like "Owned!".

Advance Wars: Dual Strike is a staggeringly addictive game. And also awesome. I have it. I highly recommend it. But give it a lot of your time.

About Dual Strike - is it better to play it with the D-pad or the stylus ? I've read conflicting reports on this, some say the stylus is a blessing; others that it's too imprecise.

I find the D-pad to be more intuitive just because I memorize the button functions and can do that fast (with the stylus, you have to hold down on the character to get the options, for example).

I like the D-pad. My friends like the stylus. Both are great. I think the stylus would be better ued for a game like AOE though, designed for just a right and left click, because Advance Wars is designed to use all the buttons. You can't swap screens without reaching for the Y button for example.

There ARE a lot of conflicting reports, because every person has different preferences. I alternate a lot but overall prefer D-pad.

And the new dual screen stuff are great. I love the dual strike. The premise is that you have two CO's instead of one; if you charge up both their superpowers you can use a dual strike, where one CO uses their superpower, then you get a FREE TURN during which the other CO uses their superpower. It's absolutely devastating when you have your army in a good position and get two turns of pounding them.

Another cool thing is where you have a battle raging on each screen and can move units to the top screen on demand. Whoever wins the battle on the top screen gets the second CO and the ability to use a dual strike on the bottom screen, so it gives you a big advantage to win on the second front.


And eight player multiplayer...

I would have recommended the Darkstalkers compilation if not for the fact that the PSP's controls are horrible for fighting games.

I'm still trying to figure out how you can play FPS on the PSP. There's only one analog stick.

I'm still trying to figure out how anyone plays non-emulation games on the PSP without the bloody UMD's flying out. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

I was a very confusing ad for it last night - a CGI creature made from the music/video/game icons rampaging through a city. Typically Sony.

We get those ads too. They would have taken quite a bit of design work.
