Months Behind the Times...

I just got Half-Life 2 today and that got me thinking. Who else here really enjoys gaming but due to a low budget and an apahetic attitude ends up months behind the curve?

Your behind? Once I get my new comp on my list of games to play are GTA3 and KOTOR.

I suspect I'll be joining this club very shortly. 1) Being in college and 2) having a shitty connection means I'm going to miss out on a lot of the hot, steamy awesome sauce coming out for... quite awhile.

I almost never buy games before the price drops. There's several advantages to this: 1) It's cheaper 2) there will have been plenty of reviews and impressions available by the time I buy the game and 3) it lets me stay somewhat behind the curve on hardware as well, which saves even more money.

I haven't even gotten to HL1 yet... I'm still on SNES RPGs

I'm a late adopter. I started WoW just a week ago under White Haven's insistance, I still play Fallout and X-COM and Jagged Alliance occasionally and uh... I bought a PS2 like two weeks ago used for fifty bucks. Nothing wrong at all with late adoption.

I HATE being a late adapter to MMO's. WoW is the only instance(I started last week)

Meanwhile I used to be a late adopter. Back before I had money. No amount of brillant manipulation would open up the wallet for any sort of computer upgrades.

Which resulted in my Pentium 166(OC to 233 woo!) being my only computer until I was eighteen. (When I got my own money) At that point Big Pentium III's had been out for a few months.

Still need to play Far Cry and Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Also need to play Painkiller.

Right now, the only video game I play on a regular basis is a snazzy new thing called "Super Mario Bothers 3". It's a lot like Super Mario Bothers, but the graphics and physics are amazing, and you can actually go backwards! The multiplayer features are also a big improvement, and it's expanded for more hours of gameplay.

(So yes, I'm several months behind the times.)

I plan on breaking that cycle when Quake 4 comes out. :)

Had myself an xbox since the start of 2004, been quite happy with the quality of that until about 6 months ago.

My PC is far beyond the times, only just got Half-Life 1 yesterday. Sigh, that PC was top-of0the-line in 2001.

That describes my attitude to gaming perfectly. I love video games, but I just can't be arsed to keep up with the news for the most part.

I never install games on my laptop, so the only gaming I ever do is when I'm back home on my home desktop, which until 2 weeks ago was a PIII 800MHz with 128Mb of RAM. So I was limited to games that are a couple of years old.

The last game I played was MTW in the beginning of the year. However, as we've just got a new PC, I just acquired Silent Hunter III and am looking forward to some convoy-hunting.

*cough cough* I'm still using a Celeron II, sub-gig computer.

Ten more years and it'll be retro-chic. Until then it just sucks donkey balls.

I want to play Guild Wars, but I don't meet two (at least) of the minimum sysreq.

I used to be behind the times on a lot of things - when gigahertz processers were the norm, I was still running an old Pentium rig from six years ago that capped at 233 megs, and without highspeed, I couldn't join in on the multiplayer phenomenons that later came up. But now, with this new rig and a blazing-fast connection...

...I'll still be behind the times. Not that I want to, but because I don't want to pay full price up front - if I can get a good deal by waiting, then so be it - the game'll still be there.

I mean, I only finally got Battlefield 1942 as of yesterday, but at a good discount for the entire anthology.

I cycle. Normally, I'm current or competant for two years, then I lag behind for two years. Then I get a new computer, and the cycle starts anew. Right now I'm in the current phase, with some 22 months left until I lag behind.

Sadly, I just got R:TW (love it, BTW!), so I'm playing catch up, still. Eventually, though, I'll have everything I wanted...just in time for me to go back into the lag phase of the cycle. :D

Short answer: Very.

Before and during college, I was waaay behind the times, except for the rare moments when I had access to gaming comps at occasional LAN parties, etc.
Most of my computing career has been spent on a 233mhz iMac with 32 megs of RAM, a 56k dial-up modem, and OS..7, I believe. I basically couldn't play any games whatsoever, so when I had finally saved up enough money to buy a new computer, I also bought a fuckton of games with it.

Hell, I didn't play Ocarina of Time until last year, so yeah, I'm pretty behind in a lot of games/franchises. More out of apathy and just being my usual cheapskate self than budget problems, though.

Yeah, much like Brother-Captain Gaius, I too am in college and am perpetually broke. So, I'm waay behind the curve on things; I think the newest game I have in my collection is Dawn of War, which isn't quite a year old yet. I think the newest thing I'll get is either Winter Assault once I get my next work-study paycheck or Civilization IV. After that, it's no new games for me, as new games cost too much money for broke-ass me.

However, used PS2 and PS1 games are all right by my measure. It's just shitty that the ones I want sell for more now than they did when they came out. Damn you, Atlus, and your quality games that have low printing numbers!

Only games I've played the last couple of months is Medal of Honor (and it's expansion packs) and BF:1942 (Forgotten Hope mod. How fans can make a more thoughtout and diverse game than the official programmers, I'll never understand. :P)

Come to think of it, those are the ONLY games I have! Haven't had any interest in gaming for years... =/

I'm usually anywhere from a few weeks to a few months behind, and in a few cases, I get a game and then don't play it/play it infrequently for a few months. For example, I got World of Warcraft back in March, but didn't play it until July.

I'm not behind the times cause my system is old or my finances stretched thin but merely cause I've only had this computer only since March. And I've been separated from it cause of leaving Korea do to abrupt orders. (I left the shithole in early Aug and this Friday my comp finally fucking catches up with me) My point is, I just picked up PC gaming, I've been a console gamer till I got this tower so I'm behind due to ignorance.

I'll be caught up as of next week when my computer, my on-the-way graphics card, a nVidia 7800GTX, and my internet service all come together at once. :P I could get BF2 but I'm hooked on CoD and in the fall that means Call of Duty 2. WoW... I just don't covet the MMORPG's.
