Getting classic game systems fixed

Post by Darksider »

My N64 has finally died, it won't be long before my PS1 goes, and my SNES went the way of the dodo long ago.
Does anyone know where is the best place to get these items fixed? (Assuming it isn't a simple thing that you can do yourself with an online repair guide)

You might consider sending it into Gamestop, though all things considered it'd probably be easier and cheaper to simply buy a new used one.

the only thing is, I'm not sure if it's the system or the Game paks that are broken. When I plug it into the T.V. I get some sound (Crappy quality, really broken up and scratchy) and no picture. It could be that all my game paks are dead, it could be that something inside the system went bad, or it could just be that the N64 isn't compatable with my new T.V.

For all I know all I need is a new T.V. input cable.

Does gamestop take a look at the system for free? or do they charge you for everything?

I seriously doubt your paks are dead, though some of them undoubtedly are.

Ask around; there's probably people in your area that have experience working with old electronics, and that'd likely be just right up their alley... at the very least, they can take a look at it and let you know if it's fixable or not.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

I'm sure at least a few of my SNES paks are permanent goners, as the system itself may very well be, but my N64 paks should be ok right? A few of them might be due to dust build-up (For all I know all I need to do is open the system up and blow out the dust).

At this point I'm thinking either something with the system, or a bad A.V. cable. I've tried every single one of my game paks, and none of them give me any picture, and very poor sound.

Ok, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY False alarm. It seems due to the lack of light behind the television in my room, I had the AV cables plugged into the output slot on my television. The mods can now (Please) close this thread before people start laughing at me.....

What's the expected life for cartridges, anyway? I want to say 20 years, but that could be floppies.

And before I forget... :P

My SNES is the only one that's really a goner, but I was having problems with that when it was new, I just never got it fixed because I moved on to other systems. It still works every once and a while when I pull it out of the closet. It's wierd. It'll work fine, then, after a day or two, it'll get really twitchy, turning off if I yank the controller too hard, or step on the floor too hard, then It'll just stop after 3-6 days of use. Then, a year later, it'll do the same thing all over again.

It's wierd
