Sharing files between Mac and win with one other person
Can somebody reccomend a good easy to use free program that would allow me to share files with a friend who has a apple computer over the internet? (Specifically free legal music )

Run an FTP server like FileZilla Server on you PC.

My way:
The Mac has Apache web server built in. Check it in System Preferences under sharing. Then go to your sites folder and stick the file in there.
It should be:
http://youripaddress/~username/filename.extension

Lots of ISPs are assholes and block port 80 such as COX, so you may have to configure Apache to listen to another port.

He'll send you the link to the file.
In my case, I use no-ip.com to forward gflpraxis.no-ip.com to my IP address, so for me, http://gflpraxis.no-ip.com/OSX86.zip for example will download those videos of Mac OS X running on a Dell that Apple Legal had pulled straight off my hard drive on my web server.
Quick guide:

It's talking about using it for pages but you can just as easily stick files up there.

Yes. If his friend is behind a firewall he can control, then he can just let port 22 through and turn on FTP services and SSH.Pu-239 wrote:What about SFTP? Doesn't OSX come w/ SSH?
