Quad-SLI motherboard unveiled

Following the Dual-Core graphics card 3D1 series and Solid State Storage iRAM, GIGABYTE brings another new idea again. This time is for motherboard, which is GIGABYTE's specialty. GIGABYTE's new GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal motherboard, as the keyword "Quad" suggests, it will be the first motherboard that come with 4 PCI-Express x16 slots. That means you can plug 4 graphics cards on it, and therefore achieve up to 8 video output. Furthermore, with its SLI-support capability, the upcoming motherboard can make two Dual-Core graphics cards running with SLI mode.
GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal's 4 PCI-Express x16 slots
Four of GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal's PCI-Express x16 slots can be divided into two pairs and discriminated by different color. One pair that consist of a blue slot and a black slot is controlled by nVIDIA's C19 chip while another pair is controlled by CK804. Each pair of slots supports x8 + x8 SLI mode respectively. Moreover, it provides another option to use two blue slots and therefore supports x16 + x16 SLI mode.

And Gigabyte has created the graphics card oven! Any case you put that system in better be water cooled or have some excellent side panel/PCI airflow.
Too bad it two seperate dual card SLI channels, and not a true quad card SLI setup. Still, thats damn impressive.

Could one even get watercooling blocks in between those graphics cards? Is there even a watercooling rig out there that could handle four high-end vid cards, plus an Intel OMFG EXTREME EDITION processor?

No. Not without splitting it into two peices of cooling, all water cooling today is still running into limitations.
I'd go for Liquid Nitro.

Why bother with a case. Just stick it on an antistatic mat like that and point a desk fan at it.

If you had a double wide server case, I'm sure you could rig something up (don't know for sure, I don't water cool).

The case dosn't matter, I don't think theres enough room between the cards to put in a water block + pipes.

Despite what video games tell you, vacuum is not at all an efficient conductor of heat. Without circulating air to remove excess heat from the system, that computer would rapidly overheat and either autoshutdown or fry itself.

After looking at how the forum members at HardOCP put there water cooled rigs together, I think you're right about.

You know what I want to see? some clever case modder convert one of those (I call em) Beer fridges to a case for a high-powered comp. you know the ones I'm talking about. one of those mini fridges. Maybe with some vent holes in the floor of it and modded slightly to maintain an internal temp of like 75F. That would be fucking TIGHT. And how simple, too? there's plenty of room in those things.
