Why, why did I buy VIA????

I bought an iPod but my computer is still hobbled with the curse of USB 1.1. Needless to say, transferring data at maybe 1 MB/sec maximum is not how I'd like to spend my days. Cue slickdeals.net (where I found me iPod deal) posting cheap deals at a site.
I go, I find a cheap USB2/FireWire combo card with free shipping. A week later I get home, plug it in and plug my iPod into the USB2 port. "Unrecognized device." NOOOOOOOOO. I plug it into the FireWire port and all is well ... but why, why did I buy VIA? Yes, it was cheap, but a hybrid NEC/TI USB2/FW card would have saved me much pain

Is there some kind of VIA USB problem?
My K8V-SE runs the K8T800 chipset and I've had no problems whatsoever from my USB 2.0 devices (external hard drive, card reader, thumb drive, and digital camera).
I can't say the same about the nForce board it replaced.

I looked at various support forums and discrete ALi and VIA chipsets for USB2 apparently have all sorts of problems.

This could also be the result of a BIOS problem with the card, as in the case with my Firewire PC Card and my Thinkpad. (I had to turn off PCI Standby in the BIOS to have the damn thing even work.) See if there are any issues in your BIOS relating to your problem.

I have a KT266A motherboard, BIOS updates ceased long ago for those.

I see.
If you want it, I have a Belkin branded NEC chipset USB 2 card you can have for $10 shipped Priority Mail.
Trades also considered if you have something interesting.

Now I feel bad about my new USB 2.0 PCI card, its a "VIA rev 5" something according to the Device Manager but my camera dock works via the card atleast, hope my ipod will work too.
