Got some new speakers. They're a pair of Rocket ELTse Bookshelves I bought from www.av123.com Sound much better than the Creative speakers I had earlier. A bit lacking in bass, but that's what subwoofers are for(which I still need to get... later...) They're being powered by a Sonic Impact T-amp, which can be seen in the first pic, ontop of my monitor. Nice thing about the speakers is the $200 discount because they're being discontinued. Paid $99 + $22 shipping.

Pics of my desktop with them set up:

Nice. But where do your legs go when you sit? That looks kind of uncomfortable.

I would suggest not putting your speakers that close to your monitor.

In the first pic, the keyboard tray is out... it roughly defines where the legs can go... mine end up on the right side of the space, but not actually all that far in.

And your brilliant suggestion for where they should go is? They're shielded, so no problem with needing to degauss it every couple hours, or any crazyness like that.

Me thinks that the vibration will be bad for your CRT. However, you must find a good spot on your own ;)

Shouldn't be anymore of a problem than any other speakers next to a CRT (when was the last time you could trace the failure of a CRT TV to the speakers in it? right.)

It looks like your desk is all wood.

That's good, as you won't get the Godawful resonance that I get with a subwoofer under my metal office desk when you add a sub .

How do they sound for 'openness'?

My new Klipsch Promedia 2.1's ($107 shipped :D ) sound wonderfully open compared to the HK's they replaced, but I've always been partial to the Klipsch sound since I owned a pair of Cornwall II's.

Am I the only one who gets a kick out of that crazy-ass multi-coloured distortion pattern when you degauss a monitor that really needs it?

No. Not at all, I do it all the time on the monitors at work, and it's always disappointing when it's just a little color-wiggle. :)

hehe, it's even more fun if you degauss in a crowded computer lab. Watching the degauss smack around multiple monitors with that distortion pattern is pretty cool.

Agreed, will a CRT out of use for half a year need alot of degaussing? :P
