Dude I am an oldshool gamer, I have all those games, but I lost my BG II when I moved.

Now I have it again and I really must play it again...

Play an evil party. Nothing's move fun than being a total prick to everyone you meet, and it's more difficult.

Is there a RPG game that lasts as long as BG2? I know the game can take up to 200 hours to finish and I wonder if there are other games that last that long.

Wasn't Baldur's Gate 1 longer? Had more map locations (or seems like it) and the walking speed was slower.

Morrowind with all the top quality mods + ex-packs is MUCH longer. As in five times as much landmass as the base game with fifty plus other classes and six diffrent weapon sets and around twenty new armor sets plus all the high res standard stuff plus hundreds of new monsters.

But thats Morrowind and about a gig worth of mods, and it still crashs.

While we're at it, there was a quest I missed that would give you some kind of uber armor made of human flesh. I obtained all ingredients bar something from a silver dragon (iirc).

What were the stats of this armor? Thinking of the difficulty of getting it, it must have been pretty good

+5 AC not much else. You needed the human skin from the evil tanner, plus doing the skindancer missions then the Silver dragon blood from the Silver dragon you run across.

Getting the blood the messy way of course.

Leather armor, armor class 3, Saving throws +4 (REALLY good), and Magic Resistance of 20%, IIRC. The critical factor was that any evil character except a mage could wear it, so it found its way to my low-save thieves and clerics frequently.

My only beef with the evil side was you got practically only one party(while Edwin was great, the rest were at times either eh or bleh...but at least in the expansion you get to boot out on of the retards for someone decent).

Also evil wasn't really offered much difference, and the rewards being good outweighed most of the eh extra dialogue.

Though if you want an absurd challenge, see if the patch still exists for TRUE Demogorgon. Gods he was a fucker and a half in the form.

Is that all? Eh. The black dragon skin armour is easier and much better, AC1 and 50% acid resistance, IIRC. Although the bonus to saves would be useful, I guess.

Viconia was easily the best cleric NPC in the game, you can still have Jaheira, and Sarevok was the best fighter in the game. Evil has the best cleric, fighter, and mage in the bloody game, and retains access to Jaheira, whose Harper's Call ability makes her competitive even with PC druids.

Edit: Korgan is also an excellent fighter. Although not as much fun as Minsc, a well-equipped Korgan will be even better for some purposes than the weird Berserker/Ranger.

By all accounts, this is an excellent party. It's one weakness is that it lacks access to a truly dangerous thief. Yoshimo has the downside of being a traitor, and Imoen comes into the game already doubled-up as a mage, making her much less effective as a thief. Haer'Dalis (sp) is useless as a thief (and, pretty much, everything else in the game except blocking doorways). By contrast, the "Good" side is missing a good mage (at least until you recover Imoen), thief (Nalia is weak and Yoshimo is a traitor), and potentially a cleric if you find Anomen too annoying to play with or just plain not-useful. While the good party arguably has better coverage (ie. it has someone who can fill each role), none of them except Jaheira, Minsc, Sarevok, and potentially Imoen are entirely successful at filling their roles. The evil side has Korgan, Edwin, Viconia, and retains access to Jaheira and Sarevok. While the game undeniably favors a good-aligned party, an evil party is quite capable and once you have collected your various characters can become at least as good as a good-aligned one.

True.

That patch was great. Some of those battles were ridiculous. I especially liked the multi-dragon fight.

In TOB, AC is basically useless since your enemies have THAC0's in the -10 range, so unless you've got a character with an AC near -15 (doable but VERY difficult) then it provides virtually no real protection. Only fighters, thieves with UAI (and who are willing to give up their thieving abilities to wear plate), and blades with their defensive spin ability can regularly get their AC's down that low. The human skin armor allowed for much better saves, and magic resistance easily trumps acid resistance except under very specific circumstances, particularly since a thief with UAI can actually gain MR greater than or equal to one hundred percent.

I liked the gnome Jan Jansen. If you finsihed the game with him in your party, his future biography is hilarious

Incidentally, am I the only person who thinks that the Icewind Dale saga was a better game (at least in many ways) than BG? IWD gave you the ability to create an entire party, and in exchange you lost the NPC's. That sounds crappy, but since I hated virtually all of the NPC's anyway it wasn't quite as big a deal as it would seem at first. It also removed the various kits and the broken ability to dual-wield, but rewarded its players with an even more engrossing storyline and a much higher difficulty level. In short, it sacrifices replay value for a better experience the first-time through. A fair trade-off, IMO.
