Advice on upgrading...

I'm considering upgrading my computer shortly, the only problem is that I'm completely out of the loop as far as new hardware is concerned and all this 64bit stuff is highly confusing.
Here's my current specifications:
OS: WinXP Pro
MB: Asus A7N8X
CPU: Athlon XP 3200+
RAM: 2 x 512mb DDR400
Graphics: GeForce 6800 Ultra 256mb (AGP)
Sound: Soundblaster Audigy 2
I would like to stay with an AMD processor, Nvidia graphics cards and an nforce chipset motherboard (whichever incarnation of nforce we are on now).
Any suggestions on what I should be looking on upgrading? Is there any benefit to getting a 64bit system for gaming? If not a 64 bit system then what should I get?

Lets try to keep as much stuff as possible, working on a budget of some kind means your going with a Nforce3 motherboard, socket 939(forgot whats the exact best motherboard). Probebly using a 3500+ 90nm(BIOS update to pick up chip correctly though).
That lets you keep the RAM and the graphics chip, nevermind the soundcard.
IF you want a total upgrade just give a budget.

That actually seems like a good system, still. I would only suggest that you upgrade the processor to perhaps a 3700+ or similar to assist with processor-intensive functions. 64-bit systems do not, yet, help with most games but it's a reasonable thing to concern yourself with since sometime in the future it will be a useful feature.
As for the rest of it, how much money are you willing to spend upgrading?

I'm probably looking to spend around £300 (or $500-$600), but don't let that constrain your suggestions too much - I'm mostly looking for ideas at the moment.
I'm would be happiest to be able to keep my graphics card and RAM because I only bought them back in July. A new processor/mobo sounds like a good plan - what are my options in that regard?
Thanks guys,

Your options are *hold on*...
This baby was the best NF3 motherboard
Now regardless of upgrade path, you're keeping the RAM, but getting a new mobo/CPU. The question is wether you basicly get a new system with a new GPU or carry that card with you.
That card is very good, the issue is that after this purchase you can't upgrade no more, by the time you'll want an upgrade you'll need everything new.
To be honest, I can't decide wether you should get an entirely new system on a budget or just upgrade, instincts tell me upgrade.

If your motherboard has more slots just get more RAM.
Otherwise time for a CPU/motherboard upgrade.
